Ed Asner, a man who has brought so much joy to Disney fans, has passed away at 91. His family tweeted this news from his personal Twitter account this morning.
Disney fans may recognize Asner’s voice as the protagonist of Disney and Pixar’s 2009 film Up. Asner brought Carl Fredricksen to life, bringing Disney fans an older man who was perceived to be grouchy, but really had a big heart and passion for adventure. Fans of Disney live-action movies may also recognize Ed Asner from Gus. This film was released in 1976 and told the story of a football-playing mule.
Here are some other Disney projects you may recognize him from:
- Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color
- Bonkers
- Dinosaurs
- Gargoyles
- Recess
- Hercules: The Animated Series
- Buzz Lightyear of Star Command
- W.I.T.C.H.
- Teamo Supremo
- Donald Duck’s 50th Birthday Special
We are looking forward to hearing Asner’s voice once again in the Dug Days original series coming to Disney+ this week. This series will follow Dug and Carl as they carry on adventures after the 2009 movie.
We want to extend our deepest condolences to Ed Asner’s family at this time of grieving.
