During a question and answer portion of the Disney Shareholder Meeting this week, Disney CEO Bob Chapek was asked if Kathleen Kennedy should be fired and replaced with someone like Jon Favreau or Dave Filoni. Chapek was quite direct in his response that Kennedy wasn’t going anywhere.
Chapek said, “We’ve been absolutely thrilled that we can have the kind of creative talent in our company, the likes of Kathy Kennedy, to run Lucas and we look forward to having Kathy directing the activities of the entire Lucasfilm organization for many years to come.”
The question comes after some fans have soured on the head of Lucasfilm in recent years. This comes as different projects and choices have gone in directions that some fans have had very strong opinions on. Clearly, Disney also has strong and positive opinions about Lucasfilm under Kathleen Kennedy’s leadership.
While some fans may not be keen on Kennedy’s leadership of Star Wars, in particular, many others are thrilled about what Lucasfilm has been churning out and what is also coming. Under her watch, Star Wars has grown and expanded and connected with many different people and new fans. Here is a quick overview of upcoming Star Wars projects in the works at various stages at Lucasfilm:
Disney+
- Star Wars: The Bad Batch
- Star Wars: Visions
- The Book of Boba Fett
- The Mandalorian (Season 3)
- Obi-Wan Kenobi
- Andor
- The Acolyte
- Lando
- Ahsoka
- Rangers of the New Republic
Movies
- Patty Jenkin’s Rogue Squadron Movie
- Taika Waititi’s Star Wars Movie
- Kevin Feige’s Star Wars Movie
- Rian Johnson’s Star Wars Trilogy
Along with the programs for Disney+ and the movies that are in the works, there are also countless comic books, video games, and novels that are being released by Lucasfilm for Star Wars. Recently it launched The High Republic series which looks at the stories that took place in the Republic about 200 years before the events of the Skywalker Saga.
All of this to be said, there is a lot of good things coming out of Lucasfilm for the galaxy far, far away. It is no surprise that Disney leadership is happy with what Kathleen Kennedy is doing with her team at Lucasfilm.
