Beauty and the Beast Prequel Series Being Worked on for Disney Plus

A new series coming to Disney Plus will look back at the lives of Gaston and Lefou before the events that happen in Beauty and the Beast. Hollywood Reporter is reporting that both Luke Evans and Josh Gad are set to reprise the roles they had in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast.

Just like the movie, this series will be a musical as well.  Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz have been tapped to co-write the series and also serve as showrunners. Josh Gad will also be a co-writer. Gad, Kitsis, and Horowitz will also be executive producers on the series. ABC Signature Studios will produce the project.

Josh Gad, Eddy Kitsis, and Adam Horowitz originally had worked on a Muppets series for Disney+. However, this ended up not happening and Disney+ is going another direction with The Muppets. Kitsis and Horowitz have worked with Disney before on the television show Once Upon a Time.

Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast came to theaters in 2017. It starred Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast. It made $1.6 billion at the global box office. Neither Emma Watson or Dan Stevens are currently attached to the Disney+ prequel.
