The latest trend for Disney films has been remaking classic live-action movies! With everything from Cinderella all the way to Pinocchio, another magical story lays just around the corner! It has been announced today that Disney has hired writers to take on the script for a live-action Bambi that will bring this classic tale to a new generation.
Disney has hired Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel, Tomb Raider) and Lindsey Beer (Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, Chaos Walking) to take on this epic project. The studio has also hired Depth of Field productions, run by Chris and Paul Weitz, to produce this new live-action classic.
We expect that this film will follow along the lines of The Jungle Book and The Lion King. These animated classics followed talking animals, something you can’t quite do in a “live” setting. These reimagined classics took CGI and brought the animated films to life in a way no one could have imagined.
While fans have expressed concerns about seeing Bambi in a new setting, Lindsey Beer has been calm Disney fan fears. She has noted that while it was difficult to try and write this film for a new time with a plot, she feels like the writing team has pulled off this spectacular feat. We can’t wait to see how it all comes to life!
Bambi writer here. This was the challenge in coming up with our pitch, how to honor the intimate brilliance of the original but transcend the plot into something more epic and suited to modern audiences. Fine line, but I think we succeeded. I guess you/we shall see. 😇 @grmartin
