Disney Makes History as it Crosses $10 Billion at the Box Office

The Walt Disney Company is making movie history this week as it crosses the $10 billion mark at the global box office. As of Sunday, Disney had brought in $3.28 billion in North America and $6.7 billion overseas. It is expected to officially cross the $10 billion mark today. Earlier this year, Disney smashed the previous record that was also held by the House of Mouse of $7.6 billion in 2016.

The numbers being recorded do not take into account Fox titles like Dark Phoenix or Ford V. Ferrari. If Fox movies are included in the global haul, the number pushes up to $11.9 billion!

Disney’s numbers will continue to increase this year with the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on December 20.

The global box office numbers aren’t the only records being broken by Disney this year at the box office. Disney has also released five movies that passed a billion dollars at the global box office as well. This includes Avengers: Endgame, Aladdin, Toy Story 4, The Lion King, and Captain Marvel. Frozen 2 is nearing the billion-dollar mark as well making it the sixth to enter the billion-dollar club this year. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker could be seven. Avengers: Endgame is also the highest-grossing film of all time.
