This morning Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was dedicated at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort. This comes a day before guests will be welcomed to Batuu at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Bob Chapek led the ceremony with Hondo Ohnaka, Vi Moradi, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and BB-8 joining as well.
The event began with Hondo Ohnaka welcome his new potential business partners to the area. Chewbacca, R2-D2, and BB-8 soon arrived and interrupted him. A brief disagreement ensued over him risking lives over profit. As things go from bad to worse, Stormtroopers show up. Thankfully, Vi Moradi showed up to save the day and draw the Stormtroopers away. As the moment ended, Hondo promised a deal of a lifetime for his friends as they departed and Bob Chapek came to the stage.
Chapek welcomed and thanked the guests for joining him. He shared about the land being the most ambitious project that’s ever been tasked to Imagineers. “This is storytelling on a truly epic scale,” Chapek shared. As Chapek invited the world to “live their very own Star Wars adventure” on Batuu, Hondo Ohnaka, Vi Moradi, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and BB-8 returned to the stage. With a roar, Chewbacca shot his bow bowcaster off to one side the fireworks began to explode around Black Spire Outpost. Fireworks done, Chapek said “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!” and the land was now dedicated.
While this ceremony might not have been as full of pomp and circumstance as the one at Disneyland, it definitely had a Star Wars feel to it. It had characters that Star Wars fans know and love, it had the First Order, and it had the feel of being in a mini Star Wars adventure.
Tomorrow, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open to the public at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. DAPS MAGIC’s very own Mikey Really Likely will be attempting to get into the land on the first day. Make sure to follow him on Twitter at @mikeylikey25 for his updates and also @daps_magic.
