This week Mickey and the Magical Map celebrated its 5th anniversary. It officially opened in the Fantasyland Theatre at Disneyland on May 25, 2013. This approximately 22-minute show takes Mickey on several adventures as he attempts to become a mapmaker. An event was held on May 23, 2013, for members of the media to preview this show and learn more about it. DAPS MAGIC was on hand for this very special evening.

Mickey and the Magical Map begins with Mickey Mouse and mapmakers in Yen Sid’s studio working on a map. Once the mapmakers leave, Mickey gets into some trouble as he tries to complete the map himself. This leads him on several adventures through scenes from Disney animated features. The scenes include musical moments from The Jungle Book, The Little MermaidTangled, Pocahontas, Mulan, Lilo and Stitch, and The Princess and the Frog. As the show concludes, Mickey Mouse learns what it truly means to be a mapmaker and also a life lesson in the process.

Here is a Q&A from the world premiere of Mickey and the Magical Map with Kevin Eld & Michael Jung.

Mickey and the Magical Map generally can be found playing daily at the Fantasyland Theatre at Disneyland. It has had a few tweaks through the years that has changed things. We’ve included a video of the most updated version. What’s your favorite part of the show? If could add a scene from a Disney animated feature to it, what would you add? This is my FAVORITE show at Disneyland! I can’t believe it’s been 5 years already! The final note sung by Pocahontas, Mulan and Rapunzel in their scene together gives me chills every time. And Stitch is always awesome. I only wish the show was playing on weekdays. As of now, they only have it running on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Hopefully they will add more show times in the summer.

    1. Here’s hoping it goes back to daily soon! Did you ever see Animazement at that theater? If so, what’d you think?
