It appears that Harrison Ford’s ride as Indiana Jones might be coming to an end. In an interview with The Sun, Steven Spielberg revealed some interesting details about the future of the franchise.
“This will be Harrison Ford’s last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure, but it will certainly continue after that,” Spielberg shared. The move is set to begin filming next April. The 75-year-old Ford originated the role in 1981 Raiders of the Lost Ark. Spielberg didn’t just talk about endings though, he talked about what could be coming next.
As has been known since Disney purchased the franchise from George Lucas, the franchise will be continuing on past Indiana Jones 5. Steven Spielberg was asked about what could be next and if Indy could possibly be a woman, he nodded and said, “We’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that.”
While this doesn’t necessarily mean that the next person to don the fedora will be a woman, it doesn’t mean that it won’t either. Anyone could be the next Indiana Jones. The best part about this is that there WILL be future adventures for Indiana Jones.
This brings up a whole new line of questions, who could be the next Indiana Jones? In the past names like Chris Pratt or Bradley Cooper have been discussed. Now, knowing that Indy could be male or female, who would you add to the mix? Let us know who you think could be the next Indiana Jones in the comments below!
