Avengers: Infinity War Garners Top Box Office Opening Weekend Ever!

Avengers: Infinity War has garnered an estimated $630 million globally. This makes it the number opening weekend for a movie of all time. Domestically, the film pulled in $250 million. This also makes it the largest domestic opening ever as it passes Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ $248 million in 2015.

The accomplishment now gives Disney 9 out of the top 10 openings of all times. This was done without the aid of China also, which has the movie opening on May 11. This also changes the course of the domestic box office earnings. Before Avengers: Infinity War, they were down 3%. After this weekend it is now up 3%.

Avengers: Infinity War was directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and is the culmination of 10 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe stories. It takes place 2 years after Captain America: Civil War and sees the Avengers teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to stop Thanos.

Now Avengers: Infinity War leads the top five box office openers of all time and is followed by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Jurassic World, Marvel’s The Avengers.
