Marvel and Hulu announced a full order of the first season of Runaways. The announcement was made during an upfronts presentation this morning. Runaways is a popular Marvel comic where a group of children find out their parents are super villains. Some of the kids also have powers gained from their parents. The group runs away from their families because they have discovered the dark secret of the villainous club.
According to Newsarama, the idea was originally going to be a movie and was being developed at the same time as Iron Man. Being put on the backburner, the movie has become a television show and will be exclusive to the Hulu streaming service. Jack Rico, a contributor for the Today Show, tweeted out a video of the first look at Runaways below.

The cast includes…
- Rhenzy Feliz.
- Lyrica Okano.
- Virginia Gardner.
- Ariela Barer.
- Gregg Sulkin.
- Allegra Acosta.
- Ryan Sands.
- Angel Parker.
The show has a solid backing in the comics, as the series went on for quite a while. In the comics the characters intertwined with the other Marvel main characters. All of this may mean that we’ll see some of the kids pop up in other Marvel projects.
Runaways joins in the lineup of other television shows being developed by Marvel Studios including Cloak and Dagger, Inhumans, and the Netflix Defenders assortment. It’s still unknown how or if all of these fit into the Marvel movies, although Inhumans and Defenders are already existing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Runaways looks very promising and very edgy. It will certainly be a different feel from anything before, based on how the comics went. A release date for the series has not been announced yet.
