Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT!

Disneyland Resort’s Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! Offers Multiple Ride Experiences

When Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! opens on May 27th, riders will get to experience multiple different iterations of the ride. Anyone who has seen the Guardians of the Galaxy movies know that music plays a heavy role in the storytelling. This attraction will be no different. When guests board this attraction they will have six different musical journeys they could conceivably experience. As they rescue the Guardians from this fortress they will be hearing music from the 60’s, 70’s, or early 80’s.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! will have riders assisting Rocket Raccoon as he leads the escape mission to rescue the Guardians. The mission will be accompanied by an “awesome mix” of songs that were inspired by the movies. They will include the following:

  • “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar (1980)
  • “Give Up The Funk” by Parliament (1975)
  • “Born To Be Wild” by Steppenwolf (1968)
  • “I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5 (1969)
  • “Free Ride” by The Edgar Winter Group (1973)
  • “Burning Love” by Elvis Presley (1972)

Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT!There will be a different ride experience and visuals that will accompany each song.

The creation of this final six experiences came from extensive research, testing, and experimenting by Imagineers. Originally there were 100 songs that were considered for use with this attraction. They were eventually narrowed down to the six listed above.

“A strong identifiable back beat and a memorable hook were key points,” said John Dennis, executive creative director of music with Walt Disney Imagineering. “For example, ‘Free Ride’ has an iconic guitar hook to open the song, a killer bass line in the verse and, in the chorus, the backing vocals have this great ascending line. The rock ‘n’ roll music playing on board the ride is just plain fun. The songs, each paired with its own ride profile, give us six unique experiences.”

These will not be the only six sounds found throughout the attraction. Guardians of the Galaxy composer Tyler Yates also music that will be heard in The Collector’s Fortress lobby and office scenes. When exiting the attraction, listen for music from the movie along with some extras that were inspired by it. Some sounds of the various creatures of the Tivan Collection could also be heard as guests exit.
