New Warriors has had several iterations of comics in Marvel Comics. Much of them have been about super heroes that are trying to make their way in the world, and this world has the likes of the Avengers in it. Many times they’ve been costumed heroes with great power, but not much responsibility.
Marvel Television and ABC Signature are producing a television series based on this team of heroes, and it will be with the popular character Squirrel Girl.
New Warriors will be a half hour comedy super hero show. The heroes will live and work together, while trying to balance their own personal lives in it all.
According to Marvel…
“Marvel’s New Warriors is about that time in your life when you first enter adulthood and feel like you can do everything and nothing at once – except in this world, bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates.”
Freeform will also be airing a series based on Cloak and Dagger. This team, in the comics, is a mutant pair that has had deep struggles.
It seems that both series will be in the same cinematic universe as the movies and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but it’s not known for sure. No other New Warriors team members have been mentioned, except Squirrel Girl.
This is a show I’m excited about because of having read the comics in the past. New Warriors brought both drama and humor to the stories that were illustrated, and it will be nice to see these on the small screen. The style that the studios hope to bring will be a welcome one in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When there’s action heavy Agents, and dark drama Netflix series New Warriors will bring a breath of air to the comics genre. A couple characters I hope they bring in are Speedball and Namorita, who is the cousin of Namor of Fantastic Four fame.
