Disney & KaBOOM! Build Seventh Playground Together in the City of Anaheim

The Disneyland Resort and KaBOOM! have once again teamed up to create a brand new playground in the Orange County area. Marked as the seventh new playground in the City of Anaheim by KaBOOM! since 2011, Lincoln Park’s new playspace will benefit more than 1,200 children in the local area.

On a misty Saturday morning, more than 200 volunteers from KaBOOM!, the Disneyland Resort, the Anaheim Family YMCA and the City of Anaheim, built a playground in less than eight hours. The area which was”kid-designed,” came to life by the helpful hands of volunteers. Rain or shine, the project was to be complete.

As to building a playground in a mere few hours, a lot of planning had to be done.  According to Kristin of KaBOOM!, the event took around six weeks to plan. In doing so, everything was set up in a neat fashion by the time volunteers arrived that morning. Volunteers were split into various groups by project element. From moving mulch to building park benches, teams named after healthy food items such as broccoli, worked vigorously throughout the day.

By the time 2:30 p.m. rolled around, the park was complete. In just a few days, after everything dries and sets, kids from all over can call this new playground theirs.

Mayor of Anaheim, Tom Tait said, “In a matter of hours, the community has come together and turned an empty field into a playspace for kids. This project will pay off in social capital gains for years to come as kids come to play and their parents gather and get to know each other.”

No Disney event is compete without an extra dash of magic. With all the support from the Walt Disney Company Healthy Living Commitment and more, Mickey Mouse arrived to help with the cutting of the ribbon. As the the crowd cheered “3..2..1!,” the beautiful playground was presented!
