Pixar's Jim Morris Shares Some Insight on 'Toy Story 4'

As we all prepare for the newest Toy Story film, there is much speculation as to what the story will be. This week in an interview on the Disney Latino Blog, Jim Morris, president of Pixar Animation Studios, answered quite a few questions on the film.

In this interview, readers were told that Toy Story 4 will not in fact be a continuation of the previous films. The fourth installment will bring forth a new concept and will focus more on the lives of the toys rather than the humans. Audiences were last left seeing Andy dropping his toys of to Bonnie as he left for college. As heart-wrenching as it was, the story line is to now continue with a romantic comedy feel.

Here is what Morris said on the progression of the film:

What stage of production is currently Toy Story 4?

We will table the third reading these days. Usually, after working on the idea with the team of stories and writers who complete their script, we call Pixar employees or external actors to sit and conduct a reading of the script. It is evolving very well. We are putting together a very nice story. It is not a continuation of the end of the story of Toy Story 3. TEMPORARILY it is, but it will be a love story. It will be a romantic comedy. It will not make much focus on the interaction between the characters and children. I think it will be a very good movie.

Honestly, we thought we might not make another film Toy Story , but a session ofbrainstorming we did, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter, Lee Unkrich and John Lasseter had this idea. A John it seemed irresistible felt the need to do it. The third movie was over in a beautiful way and completed a trilogy. I think this movie is not part of this trilogy. It is a separate story, which in turn do not know if will be continued. Never begin a project with that in mind.

The way we approach these films is betting on a creative person and helping to incubate your idea. If you think of something you’re passionate about and we like, we do. The decision to make second or third party entirely depends on how passionate he is the director of the project. It is the best way to do it. Fortunately, our films are successful and we have to exploit doing sequels to earn money. It’s not about that. It is an idea that arouses enthusiasm.
