James Bond’s next outing could take a little bit longer to get to the big screens than previously anticipated. It was recently revealed that Skyfall co-writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade to polish up the script for James Bond 24 that was written by Oscar winning screenwriter John Logan. According to most reports, the duo were brought in to add some of that classic James Bond humor. According to the Daily Mail, “Purvis and Wade have been asked to ‘punch up’ the script and sprinkle in more gags, emphasising the witty repartee between Daniel Craig’s 007 and Naomie Harris’s Miss Moneypenny, and focusing on the interplay between Bond and Ralph Fiennes’s M.” Some have complained that humor has been lacking in recent films. Most noticeably, Bond alum John Cleese complained that the franchise was becoming to serious and action driven.

It should be of little surprise that Neal Purvis and Robert Wade were brought in to work on Bond 24. They have been a part of every Bond movie since 1999’s  The World is Not Enough. Perhaps the bigger surprise is how long it took the powers that be to bring them into the fold.  This will cause a delay in shooting but perhaps that was inevitable. Director Sam Mendes has several theatre projects in the works. Part of his contract stipulates that he be able to maintain these commitments while working on James Bond.

Currently James Bond 24 is slated to hit theaters on November 6, 2015. At this point, it might be a bit ambitious to hope that Mendes and crew will be able to filmand then take it through the lengthy post-production process in less than a year. It would be no surprise if the fourth James Bond film to feature Daniel Craig is delated to accommodate the delays in the process.
