The highly anticipated sequel to the successful Disney Channel original tween movie High School Musicalwill hit US airwaves on Friday, August 17 before rolling out across the Mouse's worldwide network in September.
The made-for-TV sequel will initially be promoted through an interactive online game housed onDisneyChannel.com as of May 4, and then on May 18, the site will put up a downloadable poster for the flick.
Not surprisingly, the same creative team that was behind the first movie have been re-assembled, including director Kenny Ortegea, choreographers Charles Klapow and Bonnie Story, the tunesmiths who crafted the musical score, and the original cast, including budding star Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens as athletic Troy and nerdy Gabriella.
The sequel picks up with the school year just over and the East High Wildcats working summer jobs and preparing for the annual Midsummer Night's Talent Show.
The first movie, which bowed on January 20, 2006 in the US, racked up an estimated 100 million viewings and spawned the best-selling CD of the year.
