Emily Mortimer to Join Cast of Disney’s ‘Mary Poppins’ Sequel

In the midst of all the live action Disney films heading our way, plenty of work is in progress for various films. This week, it was announced that Emily Mortimer will join the cast of Disney’s upcoming Mary Poppins sequel.

Mortimer is said to play the character of Jane Banks. With the story taking place 25 years from where the original film left, the Banks children will be shown in their grown-up state. A while back, it was also announced that Ben Whishaw would portray the character of Michael Banks, her brother.

Best not forget, actress Emily Blunt is cast as lead role, Mary Poppins!

Playing new characters in the Rob Marshall-directed sequel, Meryl Streep will be portraying Poppins’ cousin and Lin Manuel-Miranda will be a streetlamp lighter.

Marshall will produce Returns, along with John DeLuca and Marc Platt. Life of Pi scribe David Magee will pen the movie, which will feature original music from Broadway vet Scott Wittman.

Mary Poppins Returns is said to land in theaters on December 25, 2018.
