A Disneyland cast member has pled not guilty to one felony count of possession of a destructive device in a public place. This was after two dry-ice explosions closed Toon Town at Disneyland on Tuesday.
The first explosion was shortly after 5:00pm when a female cast member came to relieve Christian Barnes at an outdoor vending cart. When he opened the cart, the first water bottle exploded. According to the District Attorney’s Office, “The defendant is accused of then taking the second water bottle from the cart and walking away toward the employee break room. While passing through Toontown, Barnes is accused of placing the second water bottle containing dry ice in a trash can. He is accused of then leaving the immediate area.”
Toon Town was then evacuated and the investigation began. No damage has been reported and aside from some ringing ears, there were no injuries.
Barnes was interviewed after the incident and authorities say it is possible that Barnes was playing a prank. Upon his arrest, his bail was originally set at $1 million but has now been reduced to $500,000. If convicted, Barnes could face up to six years in jaily.
His pretrial hearing is set for June 7.
