0:14
certain times
0:37
this is behind the scenes
0:40
very intricate process

and we've made our way into disney
1:22
california adventure now because we are
1:24
going to do a wine tasting seminar today
1:26
we'll probably give you a moment of that
1:28
as we go through it
1:31
but we've hit it really lucky the last
1:32
few weeks every time we walk in
1:35
five and dime has been playing
1:52
[Music]

ah
2:02
[Music]
2:13
we're at sonoma terrace and we are going
2:14
to be tasting skywalker wine today
2:17
and this is our wine tasting group we've
2:20
got katie angela and murray he's looking
2:24
at his bag
2:26
the wines are up there in front
2:29
and we'll probably show you some
2:30
highlights of us tasting i don't know
2:32
exactly what we're gonna do because this
2:34
is
2:34
about 45 minutes
2:36
long and i don't actually know what
2:37
we're drinking so
2:38
uh
2:40
wine we are drinking wine thank you
2:42
murray um
2:43
and it's hosted by porksicle but we
2:45
don't have pork sickle glasses so
2:48
we'll see how this goes i'm looking
2:49
forward to it and
2:52
we will for sure afterwards tell you our
2:54
thoughts of the whole process
2:57
food and wine festival
2:59
and now please welcome your host
3:08
we're so happy to have you here
3:10
welcome to the 2022 disney california
3:13
adventure food and wine festival my name
3:15
is sunny and it is my pleasure to be
3:17
hosting you here at the stunning sonoma
3:19
terrace we are so excited to have you
3:21
with us for this wine education and
3:23
tasting seminar treats including
3:25
skywalker vineyards chateau margie and
3:27
province france and biandante del
3:29
chiello in umbria italy
3:31
all three estates offer private
3:33
accommodations world-class food and wine
3:35
and bespoke hospitality in the skywalker
3:38
style so please give a warm round of
3:40
applause for tom johnson
3:46
all right hello everybody it's a
3:48
pleasure to be here today it's great to
3:50
see you and see some of you again um
3:52
i've been here this weekend uh hosting
3:54
some amazing events and i see some
3:56
familiar faces so thanks for coming back
3:58
um the wine's the same so we'll just get
4:00
to try it again um uh as sonny was
4:03
saying um my name's tom i've been with
4:05
the ranch for
4:06
just eight years now and it's an
4:09
absolute honor and pleasure to be doing
4:11
what i'm doing i love my job i have the
4:13
best job ever
4:15
and we get to try wines and do things
4:18
kind of all around the world
4:20
today we are going to focus on skywalker
4:22
vineyard twines we have three different
4:24
wineries within our portfolio but my
4:27
favorite and the ones that are closest
4:28
to my heart are the three that i have in
4:30
front of us here today so when working
4:32
with disney you know i had this schedule
4:33
two years ago uh to come here and a few
4:37
things happened in the world and we
4:38
didn't get to do it um but uh so we
4:41
brought out a reserve wine for you today
4:43
uh to try these uh
4:44
may some of you haven't tried these at
4:46
all and
4:47
some of you that are our fans and have
4:49
tried their wines haven't tried these
4:51
wines because we just released them and
4:52
we're really packing up the boxes and
4:54
sending them down to disney right before
4:55
i got here so some of these are brand
4:57
new releases that you'll be the first to
4:59
try um
5:00
we are a winery uh very very small right
5:04
at skywalker ranch people ask me that
5:06
all the time i even have people ask how
5:07
is george lucas allowing you to sell
5:08
these wines it's georgia's winery so
5:11
that's how
5:12
and we work very very closely with
5:14
disney uh we are
5:17
obviously huge fans of what we do here
5:20
we say that uh george in the sale to
5:22
disney in 2012 george sold all the
5:25
intellectual property we kept all the
5:27
physical property so on the physical
5:28
property then are these amazing wines we
5:31
also have gardens we also have
5:34
wagyu beef on the property we have over
5:35
150 head of beef we make olive oil and
5:39
honey and all things that really tie
5:41
into kind of this wine lifestyle
5:44
with that with the success of what we've
5:45
been doing here we then purchased the
5:48
winery in france so we have a property
5:50
over provence chateau marquis
5:52
and we're about ready to open up our
5:53
hospitality area there probably may or
5:56
june
5:57
and then after that we during covet we
6:00
were able to create bottle and send over
6:03
wines from our italian property in
6:05
umbria chateau or
6:07
vietnam
6:09
right in umbria and so we have three
6:11
wines from that
6:12
area as well that was interesting to
6:14
george and what is interesting to these
6:16
wines are each area is completely
6:19
different really really unique and
6:21
special to its region
6:23
and the french ones tastes like french
6:25
wines the italian wines are specific to
6:28
the region and tastes like interesting
6:30
italian wines and these wines here are
6:32
unique and different to marine county
6:34
who has tried our skywalker ones before
6:37
i know there's a couple people in the
6:38
back all right so this is a a new crowd
6:41
to this brand so i'm excited to to pour
6:43
these for you who drinks wine
6:46
once a week
6:48
once a day
6:50
before noon
6:52
okay all right so there's a few of you
6:54
um but you may not have tried these ones
6:56
so today we're going to go through three
6:57
different wines rose
7:00
which is going to be one from um our
7:01
last vintage 2021.
7:03
uh it's a wine that we we
7:05
harvest in september october turn it
7:08
into wine get it in the bottle and get
7:10
it out to the people and that's what
7:11
we're doing with this this is you guys
7:12
are the first to try that then we do our
7:14
chardonnay which is going to be um very
7:17
much unique to marin county where it
7:19
sits in oak for a little bit of time and
7:21
then we're going to end with our
7:22
flagship wine the skywalker pinot noir
7:24
uh which again is everyone was asking me
7:26
which one's your favorite does the
7:27
marketing guy say all of them but really
7:29
this pinot is my favorite uh it's a
7:31
really really great bottle of wine and i
7:34
don't always get it to to disney i don't
7:36
make enough to get into all the
7:37
different channels that we want to sell
7:39
it but we do have it here today so with
7:41
that i don't want to keep talking i do
7:43
want to start wine presentations with
7:45
the cheers so please enjoy grab your
7:47
first class the rose raise it up uh
7:50
cheers your your
7:51
person you came with or the person you
7:53
don't know across the table uh welcome
7:55
great to see you all
8:01
with this first step
8:03
don't think about it
8:04
let it pass through forget about it get
8:06
the churro out of your mouth get the
8:08
empanada i think over there
8:10
out of your mouth
8:12
because that's not what we want to taste
8:13
like we really wanted to then take that
8:14
second sip so take that second flip now
8:17
and really let it just sit on your
8:18
palate uh on your top and just kind of
8:20
think about it for a little bit
8:22
and uh tell us what you think there
8:26
this rose is a wine that there is zero
8:28
sugar in it we ferment all the the sugar
8:30
out of it it's not a white scent
8:32
a lot of guys like i don't drink you
8:33
know rosettes well you haven't had good
8:35
we'll say uh i have a one this is a wine
8:37
that just kind of sits there it's kind
8:39
of got that lemonade acid thing going on
8:40
the side of your mouth
8:42
and it really kind of begs for the
8:43
second set um this is done in the
8:45
california style it is very much a
8:48
darker rose than what we see in france
8:51
and that's purposeful california if you
8:52
like a little bit more of the pigment
8:53
coming through through the skins pinot
8:55
noir is a red grape that you then just
8:57
take the skins away and underneath the
8:59
red skins are kind of a white fleshy
9:01
grape kind of like a thompson seedless
9:03
when you bite into it maybe a red grape
9:04
but inside it's kind of pink or fleshy
9:07
same with penum so all you do is you
9:09
just
9:10
crush the fruit let it sit in the skins
9:12
just like a tea bag would kind of
9:15
work within a in some boiled water so
9:17
basically the skin color starts to
9:20
go into the wine and then after a
9:22
certain amount of time sometimes eight
9:24
hours sometimes 24 hours you then pull
9:26
the skins out and then you have this
9:28
really bright clean fresh uh wine this
9:31
is a 2021 i was saying we've just
9:33
bottled it our we do have a small club
9:35
uh where our club members have gone
9:37
online to purchase our wine so that we
9:38
send them a selection before anybody
9:40
else gets it um but we're releasing it
9:43
in may and we have it here for you today
9:45
so you guys are the first to try it and
9:46
yesterday's group um so it's a really
9:50
really great bottle of wine it retails
9:51
for 30 online um and then we do sell it
9:54
at a couple different areas here at
9:56
disney and i'll go over a couple of
9:57
those later on but just a really nice
9:59
great one it's a great wine right after
10:01
dinner
10:02
i'm sorry right after work i'm gonna
10:03
have a cold out of the fridge uh it's a
10:05
great brunch wine um
10:07
and uh while you're sitting on the
10:08
shores of centro pay it's also a
10:10
reminder for that so it's a very much a
10:13
california style but uh um done in the
10:15
french version as well so questions
10:18
about the rose i'm gonna have time for
10:19
questions at the end as well but if i'm
10:21
talking too fast or i'm not making sense
10:23
or i'm getting too wanky
10:24
raise your hand stop me and uh we'll go
10:27
into that as well
10:29
all right
10:35
the second wine here
10:37
is our skywalker chardonnay
10:39
and uh there's a little bit of a story
10:41
uh that goes with this wine here
10:44
skywalker ranch was purchased in uh
10:47
1993
10:49
1978 after the release of star wars he
10:52
made a little bit of money uh and bought
10:54
this uh six thousand acre ranch in the
10:57
heart of marin county to create a
10:59
skywalker
11:00
filmmaker's retreat
11:02
for the film industry to kind of come up
11:04
and have this private confidential
11:06
beautiful creative space for people to
11:08
come in and make movies um it's focused
11:11
on post-production and uh what that
11:14
means is if you kind of break the movie
11:16
industry up into three phases the first
11:18
phases you write your movie you get your
11:20
concepts you get your fundy
11:23
and the second phase is you go out you
11:25
film you go out on location you get all
11:27
your filming in and then the third phase
11:29
is you bring back all that content you
11:31
roll it all together you add your
11:32
effects you add your your
11:35
music
11:36
and uh kind of roll the movie out at
11:38
that point so skywalker ranch was built
11:40
to be a post-production facility with
11:42
the build-out of skywalker sound
11:45
skywalker sound is on the property and
11:47
still operates today
11:48
it is now with the sale to disney it is
11:52
run by
11:54
disney and lucasfilm but george owns the
11:56
building and basically gets a red check
11:57
every month so we work with them every
11:59
day they come to the ranch to finish
12:00
these movies all the pixar movies all
12:02
the marvel movies and of course all the
12:04
star wars movies um have been worked on
12:06
and finished in the space in that space
12:08
there is this amazing theater called the
12:10
stag theater
12:11
that uh one of the finest theaters in
12:13
the world and so if you as a director
12:15
come and finish a movie here you then
12:17
know that your books can sound great in
12:19
any theater wherever you happen to
12:20
release it so
12:21
where i'm going with this very
12:22
long-winded story is on the back of our
12:25
reserve labels is this building and it's
12:27
the sky sound building and george built
12:30
it in order to look like an old winery
12:32
that you would have put out on the
12:33
hillsides of napa or sonoma and
12:36
so with that uh is the tech building so
12:39
it is still working today but jordan
12:40
planted vineyard in front of it for
12:42
landscaping really to make it look like
12:44
a winery and uh so with that after about
12:47
four years the employees went out and
12:49
picked the grapes that's about how long
12:50
it takes for a wine from when it's
12:51
planted to be able to showcase or grow
12:54
fruit and so the employees pick the
12:55
grapes didn't know what to do with them
12:57
george calls his friend francis ford
12:58
coppola who has a winery over in
13:00
rutherford he said send him to my
13:02
winemaker scott he'll do something with
13:03
them
13:05
he then made a really great chardonnay
13:06
out of it that we use for events and
13:08
parties
13:09
and special things like that and
13:11
every year
13:12
getting better and better and better and
13:14
we then planted more vineyard pinot noir
13:16
and put that up on the hill and that was
13:18
getting better and better and we're
13:19
still sending our grapes over to scott
13:21
over at uh at skywalker and uh don't
13:24
quote me on this but the rumor is as
13:26
soon as our wines are getting better
13:27
than the cocoa wines francis kicks us
13:29
out of his winery and says go build your
13:30
own winery so george did and so since
13:33
2014 on we've been doing everything on
13:36
the estate bottled and produced at
13:37
skywalker ranch scott mccloud that
13:39
winemaker has been named the top wine
13:41
maker in the world through the wine
13:43
enthusiast
13:44
and did this as a side fun project and
13:46
got to build his dream winery for kinora
13:48
and chardonnay
13:49
and we all benefit from that so
13:52
um 2014 everything's been bottled and
13:55
produced on skywalker ranch and the
13:58
wines have just been getting better and
13:59
better and better and so with that the
14:01
front vineyard in front of sky sound is
14:03
where these uh the fruit comes from for
14:06
this wine sometimes i get 200 paces
14:08
sometimes i get 400 cases but it's very
14:10
very small and very very hard to make
14:12
money in the wine business of 400 cases
14:14
so
14:15
this is very unique and special wine
14:17
that we get i sell out of it pretty
14:19
quickly
14:20
normally our club members get most of it
14:22
and i'm also blending some new wines
14:25
with our sparkling wine with that
14:26
chardonnay too so
14:28
it's that is more vineyard but it's not
14:30
quite ready yet for production to go
14:32
into that a really great wine so with
14:34
that grab a glass and try it uh this is
14:37
a wine that if you like chardonnays it's
14:40
really different and unique
14:44
so on the front part you get kind of
14:45
those happily acids
14:47
uh it's not one of those big buttery
14:49
over the top chardonnays ron bauer is uh
14:52
one of the top chardonnays in the world
14:54
and there's that big buttery you know
14:58
we feel that once you get a little bit
14:59
too much body you start losing the
15:01
nuances of the wine so we stop the
15:03
fermentation process halfway through and
15:06
so the appley acids that change to
15:07
buttery acids really kind of stop
15:10
and get almost more like tropical notes
15:13
kind of liney getting kind of supplied
15:15
acid there
15:17
and we like that like it goes from apple
15:19
to lime the oak we do put it in french
15:21
oaks some of the kind of
15:23
barrels that you can find let it sit in
15:24
there for a while to give it a little
15:26
bit of that that viscosity and we feel
15:29
it's kind of like coconut it gives it a
15:31
coconut flavor so instead of this
15:32
theater popcorn buttery chardonnay uh we
15:35
feel we have this tropical really unique
15:38
uh chardonnay that really kind of sets
15:39
us apart so um that's something that
15:42
we're really proud of again once we
15:43
release it it sells out pretty quickly i
15:46
think it may be on the field of wine
15:47
lists around here maybe over a cafe
15:50
but very very small in production um
15:54
also while we have it here i do want to
15:56
talk about the front of the label uh we
15:58
have
16:01
five different labels uh within our
16:03
brand including the two french labels
16:05
the italian labels and the two different
16:07
style of labels for skywalker but the
16:10
reserve line will always have this
16:11
winged icon on the front and
16:14
as the wines were getting better
16:16
working with george directly
16:18
we asked him what he wanted the label
16:20
the bottle the cap everything to
16:22
to be like and now to see the sky sound
16:24
on the back of it was important to him
16:26
um but as the wines were getting to the
16:28
level that he wanted we asked him what
16:30
he wanted on the front label and
16:32
he said i've been saving this for
16:34
something really special let's put on
16:35
the line so when he was writing uh four
16:38
five and six in the early seventies uh
16:40
you all may have known if you're true
16:42
you know fanboy fan girls uh that the
16:45
the good that was gonna defeat the evil
16:46
was gonna be a a woman at one point it
16:48
was gonna be an alien at one point and
16:50
then it kind of snapped for him when he
16:52
saw the statue on a friend's desk of a a
16:56
statue of a
16:57
winged uh boy not quite a man
17:00
very young in his face and he had wings
17:03
a walking stick and bare feet and it
17:05
kind of clicked for him that the
17:06
wanderer of the sky that was going to
17:07
come in and save the universe was the
17:10
luke skywalker and so
17:11
didn't really talk about it it's not we
17:13
don't tell the story on our website i'm
17:15
not selling skywalker luke skywalker
17:17
wines i don't want to be about that it
17:18
wants to be about the quality of the
17:19
bottle but the label itself is a really
17:21
unique
17:22
fun fun label
17:24
that is the the original inspiration for
17:26
them
17:27
we do have a beautiful eight foot tall
17:29
statue in front of the winery
17:31
that lawrence noble one of our artists
17:34
have done for us we have paintings in
17:36
the winery where the statue or the icon
17:39
looks a little bit different georgia
17:41
wants the the artist to really come up
17:43
with their interpretation and allows
17:45
them to really kind of you know
17:47
paint the statue or paint the painting
17:49
or build the statue the way that they
17:50
see it in their mind as well so
17:52
we have a multiple different versions of
17:54
what he looks like but
17:56
the label the statue and the paintings
17:58
are all a little bit different and
17:59
george wants the artist to kind of come
18:01
up with their interpretation so
18:03
it's really really special
18:05
for that
18:06
the
18:07
french wine is chateau marguy we make a
18:10
bin rouge a bin blanc and a
18:12
rose for a basically an everyday typical
18:15
wine that you find in france in italy
18:17
and then we also make a reserve finn
18:18
blanc been rouge and rose that all three
18:22
of those including the rv
18:24
everyday wins have the angel
18:26
incorporated somewhere on that label and
18:28
then our three italian wines make a
18:31
chardonnay
18:33
we make a
18:36
pristinium which is a roman blend and
18:37
then we make a big cabernet from that as
18:39
well and then in the bottle um pressed
18:41
in the glass is the wing icon too so
18:43
that's the common thread that goes
18:45
through
18:46
um our three different brands there so
18:48
if you see that wing icon it's coming
18:49
from from that so
18:51
we're real proud of how those turned out
18:53
and what those are like so with that
18:56
let's uh go into the third one this is
18:59
our skywalker pinot noir uh do aerate it
19:01
a little bit let's roll it around open
19:03
it up
19:06
make sure there's nothing floating in it
19:10
someone brought their mickey
19:12
covers those are pretty awesome
19:15
i don't travel with those i can't even
19:17
figure out what i'm getting those those
19:18
are great um
19:20
but take the first step and really kind
19:22
of let it sit on your pallet there
19:24
and this is something that's really
19:26
unique and different to
19:28
the wine business in general um
19:29
specifically in marin county but then
19:31
for what our wine is here so who drinks
19:34
a pinot noir versus cabernet versus
19:37
there's one guy in the back
19:39
um pinot noir is a wine that
19:43
is it's always been a favorite of mine i
19:45
kind of grew up drinking it my family's
19:47
been in the wine business and we always
19:48
made a really nice pinot um it kind of
19:51
was the ugly step child in the wine
19:53
world of the red wines
19:55
i was in the wine business when we were
19:56
ripping out cabernet vineyards and
19:58
planting more low vineyards because
19:59
merlot was the number one selling wine
20:01
and they couldn't make enough of it and
20:02
then this movie came out and overnight
20:04
people don't drink merlot anymore i only
20:06
drink pinot noir
20:07
because it's sideways so
20:10
because of that every winemaker switched
20:12
making their wines from cabernet
20:14
to pinot they know how to make pinot
20:16
noir so there's some really crappy pinot
20:17
noir out there
20:19
but if you know how to make really
20:20
burgundian style old world you know the
20:23
war in which the the grapes were meant
20:24
to be made
20:26
you can find some of the nice california
20:27
panoramas out there
20:28
marin county
20:30
is
20:31
who's been to marin county before so a
20:34
few um
20:36
it's as you drive across the golden gate
20:38
bridge you actually go into marine
20:39
county there's a county line on the
20:41
golden gate bridge that gets you into
20:42
marines you drive over through san
20:44
francisco over the bridge and you're in
20:46
marin county there's this amazing area
20:48
on the left as you drive off the bridge
20:50
of the marin headlands which are rocky
20:52
and cold
20:53
fog rolls in and it's it's really just
20:56
great trails and hikes out there but
20:57
then you go about 20 minutes past the
20:59
bridge
21:00
and you get to lucas valley road
21:02
and you turn left
21:04
off of the freeway and you drive up
21:06
about 15 minutes up into the hills to
21:08
get to marin county and you come to
21:10
skywalker ranch there's not a sign
21:13
there are two gates
21:15
and there'll be times when i'm driving
21:16
out just to get home and there's guys in
21:18
jedi costumes and lightsabers taking the
21:20
pictures in front of the gate
21:22
it's kind of like the
21:26
sitcom that was kind of spoofing it but
21:27
no police department um but it's a
21:31
colder climate area versus napton sonoma
21:33
napa sonoma is just 30 minutes going
21:35
north from marin county the temperatures
21:38
are 100 degrees in
21:40
napa during the summertime and about 65
21:43
degrees in morin county so a big
21:45
fluctuation in the the temperature and
21:47
so the pain war that is coming from
21:49
sonoma and coming from napa get right
21:51
about a month and a half to two months
21:53
sooner than marine county there are
21:55
times when we've lost all the vintage
21:57
because the rain came before the graves
21:59
were ripe enough
22:00
and so it's very risky
22:02
it's inexpensive to grow in marine
22:03
county but if you're able to
22:06
have your wines or your grapes be out of
22:08
the vine a little bit longer get a
22:09
little bit more mature the skins and the
22:11
ripeness are at the same level the seed
22:14
is actually brown because it's mature
22:15
and not green like you find in peppers
22:18
you can create a really unique
22:19
interesting european style pinot noir so
22:23
pinot noir
22:24
there's the california style is going to
22:26
be a little bit more brighter a little
22:27
bit more kind of raspberry fruits a
22:29
little bit more cranberry and then if
22:31
it's old-world style it's going to be a
22:33
little bit more kind of those darker
22:35
fruits
22:36
if you think you go from cranberry acid
22:38
to
22:39
you know black berry or cassis that's
22:41
where you're going with that
22:42
but then the thing that i really love
22:44
about this wine is that because it stays
22:46
out in the vineyard a little bit longer
22:48
and it gets mature
22:50
it does
22:51
really kind of get this terroir driven
22:54
thing and terroir gets really windy i
22:57
don't really know when they go into it
22:58
it's the environment coming in with the
23:01
temperature coming into the soil coming
23:03
in with the organisms coming in with
23:05
everything to create what this is and in
23:08
the wine world the french the french
23:10
version doesn't translate to the
23:11
american version but
23:13
if you think of it like the force
23:15
it's like the force what is the force in
23:17
this wine it's all the things of
23:19
skywalker ranch coming together to
23:21
create this bottle of wine so it is the
23:23
deep roots that are going into the the
23:25
skywalker soil nothing's ever been grown
23:27
on this property it's all virgin plant
23:29
until we've planted vines in there for
23:31
hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of
23:32
years up on the hill
23:34
we get the coastal fog that comes in it
23:36
lets the grapes really mature nice and
23:38
slowly
23:39
to create this really great bottle of
23:40
wine that every year it will taste a
23:43
little bit different of what the
23:44
environment kind of builds it
23:46
in france when you hear is it a good
23:48
year or a bad year they let the
23:50
environment build that wine in the
23:52
united states
23:53
we want the wine to taste the same year
23:55
over year over year we can if we want
23:58
the big mac to taste the same in the
23:59
united states as it does in japan we can
24:01
do that that same type of thing there's
24:03
some really great wines that you will
24:04
taste and it's the same cabernet every
24:07
single year we really want the
24:09
environment to tell us what 2017 2018
24:12
and 2019 tastes like so
24:14
you're going to have a wine that is
24:17
very very food friendly it's great
24:20
with
24:20
duck and risotto and salmon and pork
24:24
and that's very much the california
24:25
style pinot noir and it's good with
24:27
those
24:28
foods but we build it and let it sit on
24:30
the skins a little bit longer let it sit
24:32
in the oak barrels a little bit longer
24:34
so it also holds up to some red meat
24:37
i mentioned earlier that we have wagon
24:38
beef on the property we have over 150
24:40
head that kind of wander the property
24:42
george had a burger one day and loved it
24:44
so we bought four animals and now we're
24:45
up to 150 and when i'm not here hanging
24:48
out at disney i'm drinking wine with you
24:50
i'm also selling my beef which is weird
24:53
um but we do have this amazing mango
24:56
product that we do use on our property
24:58
we have a little employee restaurant
25:00
that people will go to and have
25:02
skywalker burgers um and then with my
25:04
club memberships we do invite our club
25:07
members to the ranch and we do this
25:08
really gala dinner with these amazing
25:10
skywalker wagyu
25:12
dinners with this pinot noir and there's
25:13
nothing better than the world it's
25:15
pretty pretty phenomenal so we do want a
25:17
red wine that will hold up to some red
25:18
meat cabernet will always hold up with
25:20
some red meat merlot will hold up to big
25:23
red meat but pinot noir is rare that it
25:24
will and we really build it so it does
25:26
last a long long time
25:28
we
25:29
are new to the wine world comparatively
25:32
marine county only has 17 wineries
25:34
whereas napa and sonoma have over 300 in
25:37
each county and are literally just 30
25:39
minutes from each county
25:40
and so aging wine in marin is uh
25:43
no one really knows how long this pinot
25:45
noir will last i've been having pinots
25:48
from skywalker for
25:50
i had 2008's and nines just recently
25:53
that are beautiful and if it was a
25:54
california style pinot those would be
25:56
vinegar by now so um it is a wine that
25:58
we do want to lay down to see how it
26:00
matures and ages very much like those
26:01
french burgundies that i was saying that
26:03
we're building this off of
26:05
and so we do ask that uh you know just
26:09
drink it tomorrow let it lay down a
26:10
little bit also
26:12
we do hold them back this is a 17 this
26:14
is a brand new vintage um it's just put
26:16
on the website about a week ago our club
26:19
members got it a few years previous to
26:21
let them age it they
26:23
they promise that they'll age a little
26:24
bit before they drink it but um it is
26:26
drinkable now a lot of our wines that we
26:28
do sell go to some of our favorite
26:29
restaurants that don't age and they on
26:31
the wine list and sell them tonight so
26:33
we do want them to be drinkable uh when
26:35
we do so
26:36
so we will hold them at scott walker and
26:38
release them when we feel that they're
26:40
they're drinkable but we do want you to
26:41
lay them down to see what that will do
26:43
too so um
26:45
those cranberry acids are there on the
26:47
palate they've been lasted and kind of
26:48
sit there for a while and do a really
26:51
good job we make an everyday california
26:53
style pinup as well called samita
26:55
which we sell here at come with some of
26:57
the different spots but that's going to
26:58
be more of that california style i was
27:00
talking about
27:01
and then we make this reserve
27:03
bottle here this retails for 70 us
27:06
dollars and
27:08
then on restaurants it's saying 100 to
27:10
150
27:11
there
27:12
we do have a small website i've talked
27:14
about that a little bit we don't have it
27:17
we don't have enough lines to kind of
27:18
keep it up and running all the time
27:20
wines will sell off pretty quickly this
27:21
rose once we release it in may probably
27:23
won't last through july or august
27:25
i do set aside a certain amount of wines
27:27
for disney when they're on their circle
27:29
wine lists but
27:31
they do sell pretty quickly chardonnay
27:33
sells out as soon as we release it to
27:34
our club and then the pinot noir
27:37
basically just
27:39
focus it on events that will sell it out
27:41
at those events there we do sell and set
27:43
aside a certain amount just for disney
27:45
we sell some here we sell some at disney
27:47
world and then we sell some at um
27:50
the cruise line the cruise line if
27:51
you've been on the disney cruise our
27:52
wines are on that as well and the team
27:54
does an amazing job um kind of telling
27:57
the story for us about what scott walker
27:59
is and why this wine is extra special so
28:02
if you happen to be going on the cruise
28:03
anytime soon
28:05
take a look on that
28:06
and see what we're doing with that there
28:11
with that there the uh
28:13
club membership is something that we do
28:15
have a small allocation list membership
28:16
that is sold out there's a waitlist for
28:18
people to get on there these are ben
28:20
fans of ours have been buying our wines
28:21
for a while uh where they get kind of
28:23
the first round of wines that we have
28:25
available during covet since we then got
28:27
our italian and our french wines sent
28:29
over and i have a few more you know
28:30
wines to work with we launched a new
28:32
wine club
28:34
that is on the website that you can go
28:36
take a look at where we'll send you four
28:38
bottles of wine
28:40
three times a year so you get a case of
28:41
wine throughout the year and you'll get
28:42
kind of the next round of allocation for
28:46
that um we don't really do events and we
28:48
don't really do tastings it's a private
28:50
space
28:51
at skywalker ranch
28:52
but for our club members they can make
28:54
an appointment
28:55
and come to a private tasting with up to
28:58
six people for a discounted tasting fee
29:01
to come in and try some of the wine so a
29:03
lot of the questions i get is how you
29:04
get on the ranch uh besides working from
29:06
there you really can't
29:08
except for now this club
29:10
and so we can line that up for some
29:12
tastings too and then we have just
29:14
started doing some um special events
29:17
just for wine club members where we're
29:18
going to invite them to the ranch for a
29:20
rose release party or a tasting of
29:22
something that we've just released so
29:24
that's something that we're doing there
29:25
too and and i've born and raised in the
29:27
industry and wonders who surrounded me
29:29
and i don't even get up early on a
29:31
saturday to go uh wine tasting but we do
29:33
have you know fans that will travel from
29:35
across the united states to come see us
29:37
at a tasting or a special event so we're
29:39
excited about that
29:41
before i finish up on what we're talking
29:43
about here um
29:47
people ask me kind of you know how can i
29:49
you know support the ranch and
29:51
everything on just 1500 cases or now you
29:54
know 6 000 cases with italy and france
29:56
and one of the things that we have done
29:57
which makes us really unique and
29:59
different
30:00
and really kind of
30:03
special in how we do things is we have
30:05
these great wines again i don't make
30:07
enough to keep disneyland happy on the
30:09
weekend to be honest there's we don't
30:10
make that much for what uh big clients
30:12
would want from us but what we did was
30:14
we took our property that was skywalker
30:16
ranch that george had this film working
30:18
out of
30:19
and
30:20
i was brought on to kind of reimagine
30:21
what we can do at skywalker and so we uh
30:24
about 2018
30:26
um right before copeland
30:28
we launched the skywalker retreats and
30:30
skywalker retreats is taking the
30:32
property that we have
30:34
the headquarters for lucasfilm our
30:36
property in italy and our property in
30:38
france and having a private retreat
30:40
center for like-minded businesses and
30:43
organizations to come in um use the
30:45
space in which george intended it you
30:47
know lupus film headquarters is now
30:49
summit skywalker ranch it's this
30:51
beautiful frank lloyd wright inspired
30:52
building now with hook with rooms and
30:55
board meeting space and
30:57
um bar and game room and spa and
31:00
theaters where groups will come in and
31:01
run out the whole space
31:03
you'll meet all day long
31:05
and then
31:07
at five o'clock you break go on a hike
31:09
go get spa payments and come together
31:11
for a beautiful wine maker dinner with
31:14
our wagyu and our vegetables from the
31:16
ranch
31:16
and create this really unique space we
31:18
have 56 guest suites in the space there
31:21
in my team when they're not bottling or
31:22
labeling um they are hosting you as as
31:25
our our guests on the ranch um it's a
31:28
one price for the whole thing that you
31:30
don't it's not a hotel you don't just
31:31
rent a room
31:32
you rent out the whole space whether
31:34
you're six people or 56
31:36
and the team will take care of you
31:39
with the success of that george calls
31:41
and says great i bought a place in
31:42
france let's do that there
31:44
it ships over all the wine and we take
31:46
this beautiful chateau from 1784
31:49
and and reimagine that for a hospitality
31:53
venue where you are in the middle of
31:55
provence you live that lifestyle the
31:57
food is amazing french foods from the
31:59
region from the area skywalker service
32:01
and hospitality in the french way
32:04
and
32:04
your private secure location there
32:06
there's 18 rooms it's not open yet if i
32:09
can get back there in the next couple of
32:10
weeks we'll finish it off by june and
32:12
then have that launched in june we've
32:14
been making the wines there for years
32:15
and so i have been importing those wines
32:17
and so those are the wines i was talking
32:18
about earlier and then during covid
32:20
we've already had that home in umbria
32:22
right off of lake tresamino um it's an
32:24
old monastery from the 1500s that george
32:26
converted to a home
32:28
and i have a husband and wife that run
32:30
that for us and we'll invite more kind
32:33
of families
32:34
and small business groups or private
32:37
secure
32:38
mergers and acquisitions or whatever
32:40
that people want to come over there and
32:41
use that space and it's skywalker
32:43
service and hospitality in the italian
32:44
way our chef is giuseppe he's learned
32:47
from his grandmother from the
32:49
region um and everything's coming from
32:52
that space there so george has created
32:54
these three scenes around the world
32:56
of what that lifestyle is and we do have
32:59
a small website skywalkerretreats.com
33:01
that you can go in and just look through
33:02
the windows to see what's going on it's
33:04
pretty pretty amazing and the staff that
33:07
we have here
33:08
is not your typical hospitality
33:10
you know hotel staff they are true
33:12
either executive assistant
33:15
style service or basically home service
33:17
so if you come to my house i'm going to
33:18
know who you are and know what you like
33:20
and we're going to create a great
33:22
experience for you at those spaces there
33:24
so that's kind of what we are doing
33:25
right now within skywalker to
33:28
kind of uh see what skywalker 2.0 is
33:30
going to be and it's all based around
33:32
food and wine
33:33
specifically about the skywalker wines
33:35
that we got to try here today so um
33:39
with that um i have time for questions
33:41
also i'm going to be around for a little
33:42
bit if you want to answer a couple
33:43
questions about that uh we are not a
33:45
discounted brand we don't sell that much
33:47
but it's been a while since we've been
33:48
out and about so
33:50
we did put in a little um coupon code
33:52
for anybody that wants to order any
33:54
wines online and send them directly to
33:56
your house uh there's about 37 states of
33:59
how many people here from california
34:01
yeah that's good
34:03
if you're in certain states we can't
34:04
ship to i'm sorry if you're from utah
34:06
anyone
34:08
okay good we can't ship to utah um but
34:10
there are certain states that we can't
34:11
ship to but uh if you are interested in
34:14
any of these wines or you want to try
34:15
some of our french or italian wines
34:17
go online and
34:19
check that out skywalkerviews.com
34:21
everything's coming here from
34:22
the skywalker ranch on the import people
34:24
the french attack went to the ranch and
34:26
then shipping them out from there
34:28
if you put in the coupon code mickey
34:30
somebody yesterday asked me how to spell
34:32
that
34:34
then you'll get a 20 discount on any of
34:36
the ones that you ordered and kind of
34:37
test out some of these new wines from
34:39
there there's a link to the club as well
34:41
so you can take a look at that
34:43
if you're interested in if you have any
34:44
questions after any of this or you're
34:46
asking questions about what wine or why
34:48
there's an 800 number that you get
34:50
either me or my assistant or somebody
34:52
else that's walking by the phone as it
34:53
rings
34:54
where it's just a small
34:56
basically a mom and pop with a really
34:58
cool mom and pop
35:00
that let us kind of work there so um
35:03
it's it's meant to be small and boutique
35:06
and approachable um and not snobby wine
35:09
you know we want it to be a humble
35:12
brand with some really kick-ass wines so
35:15
that's what we're doing now we have a
35:16
question
35:19
how much is the chardonnay chardonnay
35:21
sells for 50.
35:22
yeah uh we also make an unknown
35:24
chardonnay called samita and it's a
35:26
bottle that sells for 39 but it's very
35:29
much more crisp than refreshing it
35:31
happily whereas this one's got a little
35:32
bit more oat and butter the rose cells
35:36
for 30.
35:37
yeah and the peanut cells for 70. we
35:39
make a the california style peanut with
35:41
samita which sells for 42 and i do say
35:44
try them both because um
35:46
the cemita is my tuesday wine the sky is
35:49
my saturday wine
35:51
they are really different in different
35:52
ways and it depends on where you go i
35:55
will say
35:57
wine that you take from skywalker to a
35:58
party you know we always buy wine to
36:00
impress you take it to a party and it'll
36:02
always be the first bottle that's empty
36:04
because it's really interesting and
36:06
really unique and people want to try it
36:08
when i first tried it how good could it
36:10
be
36:11
i tried it and i was wildly impressed at
36:13
how good it was
36:14
when i first before i worked for the
36:15
company and
36:17
i love that it's really unique and
36:18
different any other questions for the
36:21
for the group here
36:22
yes
36:32
um
36:33
what what years of the samida and the
36:35
sky do you think are drinking best right
36:36
now for the peanut
36:38
very good question um
36:40
so we just released the 17 of the
36:42
skypino and uh i'm loving the 14 and 15.
36:46
um and there are some of those we put a
36:48
small library aside online too the 14 is
36:51
great the 12 was phenomenal as well but
36:53
it's almost sold out if it's even on
36:55
there anymore um 17 is showing really
36:57
well i'm excited about that the samita i
36:59
would go into the 15 and the 16. uh it's
37:02
a little bit lighter in style but
37:03
there's some really great fresh um kind
37:06
of cranberry you know flavors that you
37:08
like but then it also is starting to get
37:09
a little bit of age where the the acid
37:12
and the alcohol and the tannins are kind
37:13
of coming into nice balance right now
37:15
and then whatever you do try the wine
37:17
first and then have some food with it
37:19
and it's just absolutely stunning and
37:21
so
37:22
thank you
37:24
anyone else
37:34
great question good to see you again by
37:35
the way i didn't see you without the hat
37:36
there now is he um so that's a great
37:38
question so
37:40
um
37:41
one of the things that you may or may
37:42
not know of especially you guys being in
37:44
la people you may know more than i um
37:46
george is right now currently building
37:48
the lucas museum of narrative art
37:50
it is a
37:52
right now and i don't know talk about
37:54
the numbers but it's a over a two
37:56
billion dollar gift to the community
37:58
that george is giving
37:59
it's gonna be the usc campus and it's
38:01
gonna be a collection of narrative art
38:03
that george has been collecting as well
38:05
as art that he's going to bring in that
38:08
tells a story so he doesn't collect
38:11
modern art doesn't like
38:12
you know white you know canvas with a
38:14
black square on it that's that's not his
38:16
style he will collect norman rockwell's
38:18
in ncys and maxwell parish pieces
38:21
and he has over over 150 pieces of
38:24
norman rocco alone and he's going to
38:26
create a museum
38:28
that is
38:30
absolutely stunning right at the usc
38:32
campus next to the the soccer field um
38:35
there's a great little community of
38:37
museums in that area as well and it's
38:40
going to be a space that is going to
38:42
help people understand the importance of
38:43
what narrative art is narrative art is
38:46
art that tells a story when you look at
38:47
it at the true scene
38:49
in one painting of what is going on in
38:52
that life you know rockwell is a great
38:53
example of that um cave paintings are an
38:56
example of that and the the paintings on
38:58
the sides of
39:00
pottery from greece are an example of
39:02
that and so he's been collecting pieces
39:04
that are going to help us tell a story
39:06
from the original cave painting to a
39:08
movie of today and uh it's
39:12
i've seen the behind the scenes stuff
39:14
i've seen how hard they're working on
39:15
building this building the building
39:16
isn't the building it is a work of art
39:18
itself it's this undulating building
39:20
that no one has ever built before here
39:22
in the us and so add covet and you know
39:25
embargoes on steel and everything else
39:27
in the mix of it we're a little bit
39:28
slower than we want to be but we're
39:30
building this really great museum that
39:32
should be opened up in about two years
39:34
um if not a year and a half
39:37
but it's going to be absolutely
39:38
phenomenal it was going to be in san
39:40
francisco at one point it was going to
39:41
be over in chicago at one point and then
39:44
the board of directors chose la because
39:46
in the area that it is in it's going to
39:48
be able to help over 300 low-income
39:50
schools and use the space to learn about
39:52
photography and
39:53
film and art and different things and
39:56
they're already building a staff in the
39:58
team right now that is actually going
39:59
out into the community and teaching kids
40:01
how to you know shoot a photo
40:04
how to edit a movie and do certain
40:05
things within the community and that's a
40:07
huge passion project for both george and
40:09
his wife melody hobson and so we're very
40:12
very excited about it
40:14
i'm a little bit more excited than
40:15
others because there's gonna be a
40:16
beautiful fine dining restaurant on top
40:19
uh white tablecloth that we're working
40:20
with some amazing partners that i can't
40:22
announce yet that are gonna be helping
40:23
us with that as well as uh the cafe will
40:26
have our wines and then i just did a
40:28
tasting with our executive director
40:30
she's phenomenal she's gonna do great
40:32
great things and uh she's now a huge fan
40:34
of what we do here and so where do we
40:36
put the wine shop i like how you think
40:39
so we're going to have some of our wines
40:40
available there but we're very very
40:42
excited this is george's legacy project
40:44
he wants to build up while he's alive we
40:46
want to build that while he's alive he's
40:48
you know healthier than i am so we're
40:49
going to not have to worry about
40:51
anything but um it's going to be this
40:53
amazing thing and the reason just like
40:54
he did with movies he's going to change
40:56
why and how we go to museums with what
40:57
he's going to build it's going to be
40:58
pretty pretty phenomenal
41:00
i'm happy for but jealous that
41:02
los angeles area gets it so
41:05
traveling a lot more but for good reason
41:07
so great question thank you i forget to
41:09
mention that every now and then so i get
41:11
kind of wine focused but uh
41:13
great question for that
41:15
anyone
41:19
um i else just wondering if you could
41:20
give us perhaps an in our preview of
41:22
what the sparkling wine is going to look
41:24
like and what's the breakdown on that
41:26
it's almost like i planted these
41:27
questions in the audience but i did not
41:29
um
41:30
so
41:32
we pinot noir and chardonnay are great
41:34
for our sparkling wines that's how you
41:35
make a block to noir you blend two pinot
41:37
noirs and chardonnays usually you they
41:39
don't get as ripe you don't want them as
41:41
ripe as you do they still wine you want
41:43
them at 17 degrees bricks versus 23. so
41:46
if you don't have the right weather
41:47
you're going to need to pick your grapes
41:48
sooner and then what you do with it well
41:49
you can make some really great sparkling
41:51
wine so our winemaker is a winemaker by
41:53
the name of keith hawk hockey
41:56
and
41:57
i was selling grapes to him when i first
41:59
started at trams work he was the
42:00
winemaker at transfer um it was over in
42:03
san diego area it's one of my favorite
42:06
sparkling houses in the world they do
42:07
amazing amazing wines and
42:11
since
42:11
we were selling crepes to him
42:14
we set a private meeting aside and
42:16
since hired him and he is our still wine
42:18
maker and sparkling wine maker for scout
42:20
so
42:21
two of the wines that i didn't bring out
42:23
are
42:24
skywalker
42:25
sparkling wine 2014 vintage which is our
42:28
first vintage ever released and it is
42:30
available online uh it sells for 150 us
42:33
i made 300 cases of that and then we
42:35
made samita pinot noir sparkling which
42:38
then it sells for a hundred dollars u.s
42:40
and the packaging number out of what is
42:53
marin county if i do my job right will
42:55
be known for smart compliance because
42:57
the lovely ones that we're gonna make
42:59
with that
43:00
uh it's something that sells out pretty
43:02
quickly once we get them um and uh
43:05
they're really really phenomenal they
43:06
compete with dom and crystal easily and
43:09
our winemaker is a humble shy guy he
43:11
never says anything over the top like
43:12
that
43:13
when he says that i run with it because
43:15
i love it already
43:17
he wants to keep the the
43:19
skywalker sparkling a little bit longer
43:21
before i released it my arm wrestled and
43:23
he gave me a year and i about a year
43:25
from him so it's released now
43:27
and it's only a bit better and better
43:28
better so
43:30
that is absolutely a special occasion
43:31
why
43:32
um that
43:34
you should try some time for sure
43:36
i don't think we'll have it you know at
43:37
the fresco dining or anything upstairs
43:40
uh at this point but uh really really
43:42
beautiful ones so if you like the
43:43
sparkly shirts right thank you
43:47
all right well i'm gonna hang on here we
43:48
go
43:53
[Music]
43:58
that's a great question so the property
44:00
has had people living on it since 1564.
44:04
um it's an
44:05
monk monastery
44:06
saint francis was not alive during the
44:10
the monastery era but he did wander the
44:12
area and actually did hermitage out on
44:14
one of the islands right on the front of
44:16
the lake the lake is the
44:18
area of if your history buff is the area
44:20
of the battle of tresomeno where
44:22
hannibal came down and caught the romans
44:24
and and won this battle that he
44:26
shouldn't have won
44:27
by kind of running the romans into the
44:29
swamp area of tresomeno
44:31
before even saint francis was running
44:33
around but
44:34
the property has had fruits and
44:36
vegetables and olive trees on the
44:37
property all these years uh but the
44:40
vines were ripped out because they
44:41
weren't producing
44:42
way before we got there so we do have
44:44
olive trees on the property that are 900
44:46
years old 1200 years old
44:48
but then we planted new vines on the
44:50
property
44:52
about six years ago so they're all
44:54
fairly new we worked with the winemaker
44:55
verizo castelli who is a gentleman who's
44:58
kind of the top wine maker in the area
44:59
he kind of brought the super tuscan wine
45:01
brand kind of into fruition in italy and
45:04
so then we are in right across the
45:06
county line basically from tuscany and
45:09
he planted cabernet chardonnay but then
45:12
he's planted ancient varietals that you
45:13
can't find anymore
45:15
because he wanted to when no wineries
45:17
allowed him to do so and he's been
45:18
growing these ancient bridles in his
45:20
greenhouse for years so he asked us and
45:22
said sure and so we create a wine called
45:25
pristinium which is this roman blend
45:27
that the romans would have just done a
45:28
field blend for whatever grows goes into
45:30
the blend and makes this wine and so the
45:33
2018 vintage was the first vintage that
45:35
we have it is the wine that is available
45:37
online right now
45:38
and it's this wine that is
45:40
the main bridal is an old varietal
45:42
called chili jolo which you again you
45:43
can't go to italy just go buy a bottle
45:45
it's really tough to find
45:47
but we have this chili jello blend
45:48
that's almost like a cap from merlot
45:50
melbeck blend really bright tastes
45:53
chilly means cherry and italian so this
45:55
is kind of fruit forward really
45:57
beautiful zero sugar um but just this
46:00
beautiful wine that does phenomenal it's
46:02
just it's a staff favorite right now um
46:04
so do try that one as well but these are
46:06
new lines on the property but the
46:07
property itself has some some amazing
46:10
forests around us and it's olive grove
46:12
that's it's not anything we don't get
46:14
very many knowledge from a 1200 year old
46:15
tree but we get some and it's absolutely
46:18
stunning so we import some of the olive
46:20
oil here to the us we have a bien dante
46:22
olive oil from italy we have the
46:24
skywalker olive oil online from
46:26
skywalker ranch and then eventually i'm
46:27
getting a french olive oil that'll be
46:29
able to follow the produce itself here
46:31
too
46:34
now now it's it's going to be chardonnay
46:35
pinot um
46:38
the the chili jello
46:40
some gregato that we're blending in with
46:42
some of the chardonnay
46:43
uh and uh some santa forte
46:47
okay we got wine geeky okay all right
46:50
thank you guys for your time i think i'm
46:52
gonna get the hook here um i'll be
46:53
around if you have any questions
46:56
[Applause]

52:23
[Music]
52:38
[Music]
52:51
is
52:57
[Music]
53:07
[Music]
53:11
said it to me
53:12
girl and now my girls be wife
53:17
[Music]
53:34
[Applause]
53:40
yeah uh anyway we have enjoyed
53:45
both a
53:46
wonderful wine seminar i guess you could
53:48
call it and then also fat cat swinger
53:50
but i want to flip back to the wine
53:52
seminar which you've just watched
53:54
probably almost an hour worth if you're
53:56
still watching good for you uh what was
53:59
the highlight for each and every one of
54:01
you
54:01
angela you go first i really enjoyed
54:04
tasting the wines themselves because i
54:06
think they all had a lot of nuance to
54:08
them that i really wasn't expecting
54:10
okay um you as you saw we had
54:13
the rose that comes from the pinot noir
54:16
grape we've had a chardonnay and we had
54:18
a pinot noir itself
54:20
none of those are my absolute favorites
54:21
but i think they were all
54:23
different
54:24
and layered enough complex the flavors
54:27
that i thought like wow this is really
54:29
interesting and i would definitely
54:30
consider buying bottles of each even
54:32
though they were pretty expensive out of
54:34
my price range yeah you could definitely
54:36
tell why they're priced that way um it's
54:39
you know like anything that's boutique
54:41
or special uh done in small batches it
54:44
really was
54:46
worth the cost of going not just for the
54:48
product that you got but for the
54:49
explanation learning more about the
54:52
skywalker vineyards how their business
54:54
in fact they have multiple locations
54:56
around the world it was fascinating and
54:58
it just makes me want to find out more
55:00
and see how i can
55:02
try more and experience different areas
55:05
and it was cool how
55:07
in to everything george lucas is because
55:10
this guy clearly knew
55:12
george lucas personally and he was a
55:14
part of the process as opposed to being
55:16
some executive far away which i thought
55:19
was really cool katie what was your
55:20
highlight of i really liked the actual
55:22
tasting and the actual notes which was a
55:24
ton of in the seminar um but because i
55:27
know how to do coffee tasting pretty
55:28
well i guess isn't it interesting how
55:30
that transfers over yeah because i
55:32
learned coffee tasting from a wine
55:34
tasting i did at coppola and i
55:36
apparently learned wine tasting for
55:37
coffee tasting yeah and i love that
55:39
because like that was one of our
55:41
connection points when i first met you
55:42
because i knew how to taste coffee
55:44
because of how i knew how to taste wine
55:46
and i was not 20.
55:49
fair but um
55:51
but it was interesting how these things
55:54
transfer over of different places of
55:55
taste in your tongue and
55:57
your mouth and i think that's really
55:59
cool i also really like the news talking
56:00
about growing in marion county versus
56:02
napa valley i thought that was all super
56:04
interesting and picking the grapes at
56:05
the right time
56:07
cool
56:08
murray favorite mommy
56:10
um
56:11
actually now it's hard to pick out i
56:13
think we're talking earlier
56:18
[Music]
56:26
and so i think just hearing about all of
56:28
them and also you know the history and
56:30
connection to
56:33
a
56:34
company that we enjoy yeah other
56:36
products
56:37
and isn't it crazy to think that the
56:39
person who brought us star wars
56:42
brings this amazing wine
56:44
and i will admit when we sat down and i
56:46
saw the three wines we were drinking i
56:48
was like
56:49
none of these are in my
56:52
top wines of flavors i enjoy
56:56
and i enjoyed all three and part of it
56:58
was the the flavors that we were told to
57:01
taste and and the butteriness and
57:02
whatever the chardonnay
57:04
but
57:05
on the flip side
57:07
the back story behind each of these
57:10
wines is really fascinating and hearing
57:12
even about the labels
57:13
and the um the inspiration for luke
57:16
skywalker was really cool
57:19
and and hearing how
57:21
i actually feel bad because i don't
57:23
remember the guy's name
57:24
anybody remember his name no tom johnson
57:28
sure why not um
57:31
one of us got it but it was really
57:33
interesting hearing how
57:35
connected he was to not just the wine
57:37
but also george lucas
57:39
and um i think that was something very
57:42
special to these wines
57:44
and while i really like these wines
57:46
individually i feel like the personal
57:48
connection set them
57:50
a step higher
57:57
the fact that he sold his intellectual
57:59
property but not the physical problem
58:00
yeah that was a really cool moment um
58:04
each of you what was your favorite wine
58:06
of three
58:07
chardonnay
58:10
jose rose and i like the pinot noir so
58:13
most of us had different
58:15
favorites
58:17
there's no wrong answer
58:19
i think that's totally right and to me
58:22
as i was tasting them i was like the
58:23
pinot noir is like
58:25
no like no contest like and i'm not even
58:28
a pinot noir guy like i'm kind of like
58:31
if i have to
58:33
and i really appreciate it i liked all
58:35
three but that one was the one that
58:37
really jumped out and it's really
58:38
awesome that all of us had different
58:40
flavors that we really liked
58:42
and
58:44
i will say this experience makes me want
58:46
to
58:47
try other experiences that they have for
58:50
these
58:50
um what i call wine seminars
58:54
and beer seminars and yeah
58:57
but just because
58:59
you definitely learned something i think
59:01
if i were to critique this i wish they'd
59:03
had more of like a flavor profile
59:07
version of this pairing yeah like there
59:09
was a little bit in was it the pinot
59:11
noir that they talked about
59:13
or you know we talked about pairing
59:15
chardonnay he talked about the notes a
59:17
little bit more a little bit but not as
59:18
much as i would have liked and and this
59:20
isn't a critique it's or a complaint
59:22
it's more of a critique
59:24
like i enjoyed it
59:25
nonetheless but
59:27
i kind of wanted to be like oh this is
59:30
how it would work in real life
59:32
and um
59:34
but overall i was really impressed would
59:36
you do this again absolutely yeah
59:40
yeah
59:41
all right we're gonna watch some more
59:42
fat cat maybe get some carthage alfresco
59:45
we'll see how this goes
59:47
uh it's a great night at disney
59:48
california adventure and uh we'll see
59:50
what's next
59:57
there are little baby ducks
1:00:00
they're very cute
1:00:03
my friends thank you
1:00:14
um
1:00:15
[Music]
1:00:37
[Music]
1:00:41
and one of the things we really enjoyed
1:00:43
during the
1:00:44
pandemic was the carthage alfresco
1:00:48
dining experience and we are going to
1:00:50
experience it again
1:00:52
we'll see where our table ends up looks
1:00:53
like it's a high top but uh
1:00:56
we really enjoyed this it was a lot of
1:00:58
fun
1:00:59
and we're back
1:01:00
and then there's a qr code
1:01:02
we are at the carthage alfresco
1:01:05
is that all it's called
1:01:07
diner
1:01:08
dining and uh we have the chicken here
1:01:12
which looks delicious
1:01:14
and it looks like it's with a rice and i
1:01:16
don't know some other stuff
1:01:18
and then we've got is this salmon over
1:01:19
here is yeah salmon with soba noodles
1:01:22
looks like there's some edamame some
1:01:24
cucumber i'm excited i think we've had
1:01:26
this one and that one's actually really
1:01:28
good
1:01:29
murray what do you have pasta pasta with
1:01:32
what
1:01:33
tomatoes
1:01:36
and then christina what do you have i
1:01:38
have the bow with the soy glazed pork
1:01:41
all right and we're going to tell you
1:01:43
how they are after we've eaten them
1:01:44
because we don't want to eat on camera
1:01:46
and that's how
1:01:48
wait what i have pasta
1:01:52
pasta all right we'll let you know how
1:01:53
it is
1:01:56
[Music]
1:02:06
my
1:02:12
[Music]
1:02:18
[Music]
1:02:20
um
1:02:25
[Music]
1:02:32
[Music]
1:02:42
[Music]
1:02:44
oh
1:02:51
wow
1:02:52
[Music]
1:02:59
[Music]
1:03:02
so it's been a fantastic day we've seen
1:03:04
uh moon or mr mr knight
1:03:07
we're gonna hopefully see moon night now
1:03:10
and uh we got some good food at
1:03:14
carthage circle alfresco
1:03:17
and uh what time is it
1:03:20
you should be out in the next four or
1:03:21
five minutes we'll see about this
1:03:24
and uh
1:03:25
it has been a marvelous night so
1:03:28
far
1:03:30
and hopefully it continues to be
1:03:31
marvelous
1:03:32
[Music]
1:03:39
and of course we've seen moon night but
1:03:41
you can't stop which is midnight you
1:03:43
also have to see spider-man
1:03:45
as we wander out
1:03:47
on a beautiful night here at disney
1:03:49
california adventure
1:03:51
it has been a blast
1:03:56
and it makes you really thankful for the
1:03:57
days that you can just come into the
1:03:59
parks
1:04:00
on a sunday at disney california
1:04:01
adventure or disneyland which you didn't
1:04:03
spend a whole lot of time for
1:04:05
today but um
1:04:08
we're trying to beat
1:04:11
the fireworks
1:04:13
so we don't have to wait as long to get
1:04:14
on the bus for toy story
1:04:18
and we'll see how successful we are
1:04:21
but i will say everything we've done
1:04:23
today has been top notch it's been a lot
1:04:24
of fun uh wine tasting
1:04:27
birthday circle was a blast
1:04:30
and seeing mr knight slash moon knight
1:04:35
was also incredible
1:04:37
as we make our way out of the park on a
1:04:41
lovely sunday night at disney california
1:04:43
adventure
1:04:48
it has been an absolutely lovely day at
1:04:50
the disneyland resort uh katie what was
1:04:53
your favorite part of the day uh
1:04:55
probably mr knight
1:04:56
and also seeing our friend fairy tale
1:04:58
mindy
1:04:59
that's right which she wasn't on the
1:05:00
video but no but but she surprised you
1:05:04
it was very fun it scared you scared me
1:05:06
yeah um i think i had just enough of a
1:05:09
warning of like hey i know that person
1:05:11
before she jumped up that was really fun
1:05:14
um
1:05:16
yeah that was that was actually
1:05:18
a wonderful and i actually think
1:05:20
as you say that that's
1:05:22
one of the best parts of disney is
1:05:24
getting to see the people that you know
1:05:26
and love
1:05:26
[Music]
1:05:28
when you visit the parks in random small
1:05:30
towns yeah that's actually totally what
1:05:33
it is um i really liked
1:05:37
i'm gonna actually go with the skywalker
1:05:39
wine seminar
1:05:41
um i was i almost went with cafe
1:05:44
because that was a highlight definitely
1:05:45
for us
1:05:47
that was so good that chicken was
1:05:49
amazing and everybody else said they
1:05:51
love the uh what they got as well
1:05:55
we should comment though
1:05:57
uh christina said the bow
1:05:59
outside
1:06:01
lamplight was better
1:06:03
i don't know if they still have it but
1:06:06
that's just her observation
1:06:08
our chicken was amazing i would get it
1:06:10
again yeah it was it was really really
1:06:12
good yeah
1:06:14
um but i would still say that the
1:06:16
skywalker seminar was really
1:06:19
good not just because of what we learned
1:06:21
about the wine but also what we've
1:06:22
learned about the organization and how
1:06:24
they
1:06:26
see things how
1:06:28
small they are i guess is a good way to
1:06:29
put it yeah like i was really impressed
1:06:32
with what a
1:06:34
um
1:06:35
mom-and-pop shop feels like
1:06:37
and so that was a highlight for me
1:06:40
and also seeing fat cat like
1:06:42
there's a few things at disney
1:06:45
it's more personal and more fun than
1:06:47
seeing pac-cat perform anywhere
1:06:51
we've seen them both at the stage
1:06:54
at paradise gardens but we've also seen
1:06:56
them
1:06:57
now at sweethearts night and that was a
1:06:59
lot of fun as well but i will say i
1:07:02
prefer prairies parks just because we
1:07:04
have more space to dance and jump around
1:07:06
but uh yeah all the fun things and
1:07:09
seeing mr knight and
1:07:13
moon night yeah it was really cool too a
1:07:16
little bit weird to see both of them
1:07:17
yeah
1:07:19
yeah exactly but um
1:07:22
but very cool and uh
1:07:25
and then seeing dr strange like this is
1:07:27
what avengers campus really i think has
1:07:29
been a hit with
1:07:30
is how they are able to pull these
1:07:32
things together
1:07:33
over here um so quickly and
1:07:36
um
1:07:39
really be connected with what's going on
1:07:42
in the mcu slash disney plus and that's
1:07:45
been a lot of fun but uh we are almost
1:07:47
to the car so we're going to say good
1:07:48
night we hope you've enjoyed this vlog
1:07:51
we hope you watched the entire
1:07:54
wine seminar and enjoy it as much as we
1:07:56
did
1:07:56
and uh we look forward to seeing you in
1:07:58
the parks oh make sure to subscribe to
1:07:59
our youtube channel see you soon geeks
1:08:01
corner tuesday night at 8 30. all that
1:08:03
stuff but
1:08:05
[Music]
1:08:29
bye
