The sauce.

Dip,
0:08
devour, decide.
0:11
>> Welcome to the sauce, dip, devour,
0:14
decided. I'm Mr. Dapps and this is the
0:17
first episode of this new Dapps Magic
0:19
endeavor I'm going to call it that came
0:21
out of a adventurous afternoon at
0:24
Disneyland on a very hot day. So all of
0:26
the most creative and crazy ideas come
0:28
out of that type of environment.
0:30
Absolutely, right? All right, this
0:32
episode of the sauce kicks off a series
0:34
of episodes where we get saucy and what
0:37
I mean by that is we're going to try out
0:39
some new sauces that came to the
0:41
Disneyland Resort because of the recent
0:42
collaboration that Disney has with Heinz
0:44
and from that a fantastic booth at D23,
0:48
the ultimate Disney fan event. So what
0:52
can you expect with this series? Well,
0:54
we're going to be doing lots of dipping,
0:56
lots of tasting, and lots of reviewing.
0:59
We will see how this goes. If you have
1:00
ideas for what you'd like to see us dip,
1:02
taste, and review, let us know in the
1:04
comments. Make sure you've subscribed on
1:06
YouTube so you don't miss any of our
1:08
upcoming videos, but let's get into the
1:10
first episode of the sauce, dip, devour,
1:14
decided. Let's eat.
1:18
For the first episode of the sauce, we
1:20
made our way over to the Golden
1:21
Horseshoe where we ordered chicken
1:23
tenders and fries. The reason we did
1:26
this is because we felt they were going
1:27
to be very neutral and would be
1:30
a good mix, I guess, with multiple
1:32
different sauces that we would be trying
1:35
for our first episode of the sauce,
1:37
which we didn't know was going to be an
1:38
episode yet, but now, lucky you, you get
1:40
to see the first one. This will be the
1:41
only one where you get just me. In the
1:43
future, you will get Katie, you will get
1:45
Mike, you will get Matt, and we will be
1:46
tasting and ranking these different
1:48
sauces to find out what's really worth
1:51
dipping at the Disneyland Resort. And
1:53
who knows? Maybe beyond.
1:55
But for this first one, it was really
1:57
inspired by D23, the ultimate Disney fan
2:00
event, where Heinz were offering
2:02
exclusive, what they called a flavor
2:04
fairy, which reminded me of the Seattle
2:06
Mariners a little bit, but it was a
2:07
flavor fairy of sauces that fans could
2:10
take home. So, Mike and Matt, they
2:11
snagged four of them, and they brought
2:14
them with us to Disneyland's Golden
2:16
Horseshoe. We also added to those four
2:19
the four that are already offered in the
2:23
Golden Horseshoe. So, the natural or the
2:26
basic ones, I guess you could say, and
2:27
then also some special ones. So, what we
2:29
got to do is taste these with chicken
2:32
tenders and fries. We rate them, we
2:34
reviewed them. There's an article up on
2:36
Daps Magic you won't want to miss, where
2:38
it gives all three of our thoughts. Next
2:40
time we'll have Katie on as well, but it
2:42
definitely set off an interesting
2:45
thought process and exercise for what
2:47
could be around the Disneyland Resort
2:49
with different sauces, with different
2:52
things you could mix with sauces, and
2:54
different locations. So, we will have
2:55
more of those in the near future. But,
2:58
for the first day, we did go to Golden
3:01
Horseshoe, and we tried four different
3:03
sauces from the flavor fairy first. So,
3:06
we had the Bro's House mustard sauce,
3:08
the blackberry bourbon barbecue sauce,
3:10
the maple sweet chili sauce, the orange
3:13
Moho sauce, and those were the flavor
3:15
fairies. And then, or the flavor fairy
3:18
sauces, and then at Disneyland in the
3:21
Golden Horseshoe, they had tomato
3:22
ketchup, yellow mustard, ranch, and a
3:25
Golden Horseshoe barbecue sauce, which
3:26
was basically just a barbecue sauce. I
3:28
don't actually know if it was Golden
3:29
Horseshoe barbecue sauce, I just added
3:31
that to my brain, apparently. But, first
3:34
off, Bro's House mustard sauce, because
3:37
whatever reason it was put into the
3:38
flavor fairy, that's what we tried
3:40
first. And this this was an adventure.
3:43
It's strong. And I will give you my
3:45
thoughts and a little bit of an update
3:46
on what uh or overview of what Mike and
3:48
Matt thought, but my first thought was
3:50
that it way overpowered the chicken, it
3:53
way overpowered the fries. It needed
3:55
something a little bit more substantial
3:57
to be paired with. My initial thought
3:59
was I'd probably really like it with a
4:01
bratwurst and uh or maybe even a
4:03
pretzel, but
4:05
the chicken and the fries were not my
4:07
favorite. It wasn't outright bad, but it
4:10
wasn't something I would naturally reach
4:11
for again.
4:12
Mike and Matt, Mike didn't hate it even
4:15
as a non-mustard fan, but wasn't a huge
4:18
fan of it with the fries. And Matt
4:21
thought it only belonged on a pretzel or
4:24
brat. And when we rated things at the
4:27
end, that was if not at the bottom,
4:29
completely at the bottom. I will I will
4:30
get to that part in a few minutes. All
4:32
right, blackberry bourbon barbecue
4:34
sauce. The overview is this was a true
4:36
journey for me. It definitely
4:39
took me down the road a few miles to
4:41
another park that's known for a a
4:43
barbecue sauce with a different berry in
4:46
it. And that confused me at first. I I
4:48
couldn't actually tell if I liked it or
4:50
not. Like I thought I liked it, but I
4:52
was also comparing it to the other
4:53
sauce, so it tasted off at first. But as
4:56
I continued to eat it, I found that I
4:58
was enjoying it more and more with each
5:00
bite.
5:01
Thought it was good with both the the
5:02
chicken and the fries. I would do it
5:04
again in a heartbeat. Definitely enjoyed
5:06
it and I I think when you judge it on
5:09
its own merits,
5:11
two thumbs up. Loved it. Mike and Matt,
5:13
they they both also had this reaction of
5:16
like, oh, this is the wrong park for
5:18
this. And as it went through the the
5:20
meal, I guess you could call it or the
5:21
tasting, both of them thought that it it
5:24
was better than they expected and it
5:25
grew on them. All right, maple sweet
5:27
chili sauce was the next one that we
5:29
tried. And this one surprised me. I
5:32
don't know what I was expecting, maybe
5:34
chicken and waffles maple syrup kind of
5:36
a thing, but it also had a chili heat to
5:39
it
5:41
that once I got used to it not being
5:43
what I expected it to be, which is kind
5:45
of the theme of a lot of these sauces. I
5:47
really enjoyed it and it was something I
5:50
would enjoy with lunch and dinner with
5:52
what we had or maybe with something
5:54
else, too. Like, I could actually see it
5:56
being really good on chicken and waffles
5:58
in a different way, like with that that
6:00
subtle heat and
6:02
very very enjoyable. Mike hated it at
6:04
first.
6:05
He didn't think it had enough maple, but
6:08
once he got over expectations,
6:11
he started to really enjoy it and he
6:13
actually called it a voluntary read.
6:15
Matt was on board with it from the
6:17
start, enjoyed it all the way through,
6:20
and next time we do one of these, you
6:22
will get to hear his own thoughts as we
6:25
try out these interesting different
6:28
sauces with different flavors throughout
6:30
the parks. All right, finally of the
6:32
Flavor Fairy, there was the orange mojo
6:34
sauce and to me this was the
6:37
I don't know if I'd call it a full-on
6:39
disappointment, but this one just did
6:40
not connect with me. It looks like you
6:42
should be getting something that would
6:43
have kind of an orange chicken flavor to
6:46
it and it didn't. I didn't think it had
6:48
enough orange and I wasn't a huge fan of
6:52
the aftertaste, which I couldn't really
6:55
There was a weird earthiness or
6:56
something to it that I just couldn't
6:58
pick out or articulate. Like, it was it
7:01
was just one of those things that get
7:02
sat on my tongue and I wasn't a huge fan
7:04
of. Of the four, this was the only one I
7:05
probably wouldn't go back for.
7:08
Mike didn't catch any citrus at all and
7:11
thought it had a weird profile.
7:13
Matt also wanted more citrus or orange
7:15
and would like to find something that
7:17
that it paired well with. I don't know
7:19
what that is. If you do, let us know cuz
7:22
we do have more packets of these. So, we
7:24
could try them with something else in
7:26
the future. All right, the second part
7:28
of this was we tried the standard sauces
7:30
that were already in the Golden
7:32
Horseshoe. First off, tomato ketchup and
7:34
yellow mustard. I'm blending them
7:36
together just because they're exactly
7:38
what you'd expect them to be. They're
7:39
classic, they're reliable. If you like
7:41
ketchup, you're going to like this. If
7:43
you like mustard, you're going to like
7:44
this. Um I did like the thickness of
7:46
them. Like they had a nice viscosity for
7:49
dipping your fries or your chicken in,
7:52
and they they kind of clung to the
7:54
outside, which was a nice thing. And
7:57
and they felt a little bit more quality
7:59
because of that. Like it just had a nice
8:01
um I don't know, thickness to it or for
8:03
lack of a better texture. I don't know.
8:05
Solid. Like two thumbs up, they're
8:07
great. If you like ketchup, great. If
8:08
you like mustard, great. Uh the ranch
8:10
dressing was safe. It was satisfying. I
8:12
don't know that it was the strongest
8:14
ranch flavor I've ever had, but it
8:16
didn't do anything wrong, either. It
8:18
also had a nice viscosity to it. Matt
8:21
said he preferred it for salads, or
8:23
ranch for salads. And and Mike noted
8:25
that it was just a simple Kraft style
8:27
ranch. And so I don't know that there
8:28
was anything wrong with this, but it
8:30
wasn't a home run, either. And it was
8:31
fine. Uh the real breakout star, though,
8:34
was the barbecue sauce at the Golden
8:36
Horseshoe. This is not what we expected.
8:40
We thought one of the flavor fairy was
8:42
going to be the winners of of our
8:44
reviews of this or our first uh the
8:46
sauce dipping adventure. And this one
8:49
was absolutely the winner. It It had
8:51
great flavor. It had
8:53
like you could use it for so many
8:55
different things. Like my initial
8:56
thought was I wanted to run over to
8:57
Hungry Bear and get more food, even
8:59
though I wasn't hungry, just because it
9:01
tasted so good. And it also was a flavor
9:04
profile that would blend with lots of
9:06
different things. You could have it with
9:08
barbecue. You could have it with
9:09
chicken. You could put it in a a lot of
9:11
different things. Heck, maybe even one
9:13
of those those fun
9:15
pretzels that are over at Edelweiss. I
9:17
don't know. Both Mike and Matt thought
9:19
it was great. Mike noted that the uh
9:22
that it was an improvement over previous
9:24
iterations of barbecue sauce at the
9:26
resort, and said he daily. Um and Matt
9:30
also agreed that it would pair with just
9:32
about anything.
9:34
All right. This is our lineup. Here is
9:37
how things ranked from top to bottom.
9:40
For most of us, both Mike and I, we
9:42
thought the barbecue sauce was just the
9:44
Golden Horseshoe barbecue sauce was the
9:46
winner of the day. And Matt said that
9:49
the sweet chili, the maple sweet chili,
9:51
was the winner for him. But he did
9:52
follow that with the Golden Horseshoe
9:54
barbecue sauce. And we followed it, both
9:56
Mike and I, with the blackberry bourbon
9:58
barbecue. And third place for me was the
10:01
maple sweet chili, ketchup for Mike, and
10:04
the blackberry bourbon barbecue for
10:07
Matt. And if you'd like to see the whole
10:08
list, you can either keep looking at it
10:10
here or head on over to dapsmagic.com
10:12
for more thoughts, where we have our
10:14
full-on review that each of us wrote
10:16
down, our takeaways from the whole
10:18
thing.
10:19
So,
10:20
as we wrap up this first episode of the
10:23
sauce, first off, I hope you enjoyed us
10:26
dipping, devouring, and deciding what we
10:28
thought of each sauce.
10:30
We'd love to hear from you. Like, what
10:32
would you like to see in the future? It
10:34
was interesting to us that we basically
10:36
had unanimous agreement on how good that
10:39
barbecue sauce was from the Golden
10:41
Horseshoe. I mean, that's a huge step
10:43
up, I think, resort-wide. And I can't
10:45
wait to try it in more places. The big
10:47
sleeper hit for us all was the maple
10:49
sweet chili. And I think the one that
10:52
fell flat for us really was that orange
10:54
mojo. And it may be right after that, a
10:56
little bit better would be that Brewhaus
10:58
mustard. Brewhaus mustard? I don't know.
11:01
But that was mainly for the chicken
11:02
tenders. Like,
11:03
and and I think with other foods that
11:05
could be
11:07
a different story.
11:08
All right.
11:10
There is an article about this up on
11:11
dapsmagic.com. Be sure to stop by and
11:13
check it out. And you can read our full
11:15
review of this experience. Also, make
11:18
sure to subscribe to this channel so you
11:20
don't miss our next episode of the
11:23
sauce, dip, devour, decided. And we will
11:26
be, I think, the next one will we will
11:28
be joined by Katie, along with Mike and
11:30
Matt. And we will be going into the
11:32
world of pretzels with sauces, which
11:35
will be a lot of fun. And maybe we will
11:37
answer the ultimate question, to cheese
11:40
or not to cheese. We definitely have
11:43
opinions in this group on which way that
11:45
should be. And we'll also be returning
11:47
with another flavor fairy to test out
11:50
pretzels from multiple places throughout
11:52
the resort with these sauces. So, here
11:55
is what I would like to know. For those
11:57
of you that were at D23 or just want to
11:59
make an opinion from this video, which
12:01
of the D23 flavor fairy sauces would you
12:04
like to try first? All right, that's
12:08
what I got for you on this first episode
12:10
of the sauce. I hope you've enjoyed it.
12:12
I hope you've liked. I hope you've
12:13
subscribed and hit the bell for the next
12:15
edition and left a comment. Let us know
12:18
what you liked best from this video.
12:20
But, that's all we've got from the
12:22
sauce. Make it a great week, everybody.
12:25
Keep kind and we'll see you in the
12:26
parks.
