Apr 12, 2026
On this day in 1996, 'James and the Giant Peach' was released in theaters. James is an orphan plagued by cruel aunts until he escapes inside a magically enlarged peach across the ocean to New York City with a newfound family of charmed insects. The original 1961 story from Roald Dahl was brought to the big screen by Henry Selick and Tim Burton, the team behind ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas.’ This film also used stylized stop motion animation sequences in addition to live action.
