Disney MGM Studios | DISNEY THIS DAY | June 27, 1985
On this day in 1985, Disney and MGM/UA signed an agreement that for a modest fee, Disney would have the exclusive rights to use the MGM studio name, logo, and film IP for its upcoming theme park. The agreement became the foundation for Disney-MGM Studios and lasted for 20 years. Unfortunately, the owner of MGM did not know about the deal beforehand and was not in favor of it, generating a lawsuit in 1992 and the eventual renaming of the park.
