Candlelight and a Concert - GEEKS CORNER - Episode #793
Dec 10, 2025
Welcome to Geeks Corner! This week is the second week of Geekmas. Because of this, at the start of the show, not only do the geeks talk about the Muppet of the Week, they now also talk about the Geekmas Duck of the Week! The Geeks then pivot into the topics of the week. This starts with a new Explore Key as part of the Disneyland Resort Magic Key program. This is followed by a discussion about the return of Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration entertainment. Over the weekend, the Candlelight Processional at Disneyland was held. This year, the celebrity was Benjamin Bratt. After the weekend, the Geeks attended a very unique holiday concert, and they discussed this. Back at Disneyland, new concept art was released for Porto’s Bakery and Cafe for the Downtown Disney District as construction begins. Finally, there is a discussion about two Star Wars movies. First off, the original Star Wars is heading to theaters in February! Second, Thomas Newman will be writing the score for Star Wars: Starfighter. We hope you enjoy this week’s episode of Geeks Corner! We also hope you will join the conversation in the comments below! We’ll see you ’round the corner!

Welcome to Geeks Corner. I'm Mr. Naps. I'm Katie. And did you know that in 1958 in
0:25
December, the first candlelight processional was held at Disneyland? And Katie's mic was almost not on.
0:32
Yay for jumping across the room. And you know, you still would have heard me,
0:38
but that loud. It's It's the days you miss having a producer in the room because I was like, "Oh, wait. The light's not on." Um, yes.
0:46
That's That's super exciting. This is the quality content that 100,000 people have signed up to see
0:51
as as I almost biff it into the Yeah. All right. As a couple of you have mentioned, we did hit 100,000
0:58
subscribers on YouTube. So, thank all of you for helping make that happen. And uh
1:04
we will have more about that in the near future. What? Oh, Katie's getting emotional
1:10
about 100 100,000 subscribers. Why would you even say that? Oh, okay. I I won't. So, what should people do, Katie?
1:16
You should go to here. You should subscribe at youtube.comsmagic.
1:23
um or wherever you are. I I don't know. But subscribe here. Go to patreon.com/dapsmagic.
1:29
Uh it's also called Dapsmagic HQ. Pretty fun. It's our little secret
1:34
layer. If you scan that QR code, takes you to Dapsmagic HQ. You should also go in the comments and
1:40
say some things because we have a a segment towards the end of the show called comments. Comments. Assuming we have comments.
1:46
Assuming we have comments. I mean, if you guys don't say anything, we don't say anything. Then the show ends early. They all just
1:52
stare at each other. There we go. All right. But right now, we're going to talk about
1:57
Muppets. Thanks, Daddy. Thank you, Mr. Daddy. Thanks, man. Thank you, Mr. Daddy.
2:03
Thanks, man. I think it was a good week for the Muppets. This week, the Muppet of the
2:09
Week was Ma Bear. Mhm. Which is of course Fuzzy Bear's mother.
2:15
And I thought that was a fantastic choice for this week for the Muppet of
2:20
the Week. What did you think? Yeah, it was a good choice. Um, do we have two three more?
2:29
Something like that. I'm sure somebody will say don't know. But, um, Gloria Estfan is still my choice. I
2:36
think Ma Hey, don't you I think Mob Bear is great. Love her.
2:41
Still think it's really weird that this is like the fi the final stretch of Muppets. Sorry. Indiana was staring at
2:48
me with like weirdly human eyes. Mhm. But yeah, um I don't know. I I think I
2:54
expected the final stretch to be like big names or something. So, here's what
3:00
I'm going for this week. I even got a picture. I want the country trio
3:05
with Jim Hson. A So, it's Jim and Jerry. And who's the third?
3:10
I'm spacing at the moment. Why would you ask that question? I'm so sorry for asking. Um heaven forbid. I know. Okay, click.
3:19
Jim, Frank, and Jerry. There you go. Of course it was Frank. Why would I even doubt that it was Frank? Absolutely.
3:26
Ma Bear should have been Mother's Day. We are not in charge. Correct. And yes,
3:31
Glor. Okay, so it's true that the chances are getting less, but also greater each week.
3:36
While we're talking about the Muppets, I still say Gloria Stefon. While we're talking about the Muppets, remember that clip I showed you of Ariana Grande where
3:42
she gets really dodgy talking about the Muppets? turned out that she was uh bidding in the Muppets auction and she
3:48
didn't want to say what she was doing. She didn't want people to outbid her. That's fair. Like that clipper, she goes and I
3:56
uh Yeah, I'm excited. Yeah. It turns out that she was a part of the the auction
4:02
and just didn't want to say I'm going after this thing so that people would specifically That is very smart. Like I wouldn't do
4:10
that either. And you know what? Good for her. Good for Miss Grande. Wouldn't she get
4:15
Muppets would be good? No. Why would they technic? I guess they are
4:21
Muppets though. They're Muppets. They're literally in a Muppet movie. Yeah, that's
4:27
I don't I don't know. Like I think I also think the Muppets version of Rainbow Connection is really fun.
4:34
Like the Muppets really just are muppets. Yeah, but they just need to be
4:39
redeemed. They're the Las Vegas strip.
4:44
So, this is a good question from Y. Is Elmo a muppet? Yes. Technically, yes. Yes, Elmo is a muppet
4:50
as is as is all of the other Sesame Street big bird. I will finish this because Jim Henson
4:57
created all of them and built them many, many, many years ago. But there's two families of Muppets sadly. There's a
5:05
Sesame Street family and then there's the Muppets family which both have
5:10
Muppets. They both have Muppet performers. They just can't sit on the same side of the street anymore.
5:16
Also created by Jim Henson but not considered a Muppet. They're Fraggles. Fraggles.
5:21
It's so fun. Or Labyrinth. Or which are not really Muppets, but they were created by the Jim Henson
5:27
Company. Yeah, it's it's a petty argument. I agree with Chris. Yes. And Kermit. Correct. Kermit used to
5:34
be the line between When was the last time Kermit was on Sesame? Very long. Well, before Disney purchased
5:40
them. Well, so pre20200. Like it's been a while. And and there
5:45
used to be some crossovers and some fun things and there was like Muppet Family Christmas that everybody came together
5:51
and like there there's been moments where you see the whole family come together. And I personally think
5:59
Disney should figure out the legalistics and Sesame Street should figure out the legalistics to make that happen more
6:05
often. Maybe it's Netflix. Probably not. Um well, no. Doesn't Netflix own Sesame?
6:11
No, they they broadcast it. They have this streaming rights or whatever it is. But the point being is I think they
6:18
should figure out the logistics because I do think both of them bring different elements to the table of you know Disney
6:24
has fantastic production value. Sesame Street right now I think is killing it with their writing and um I would like
6:31
to see more. Forks Out was incredible. Yeah. I also think like
6:37
Abby Kadabi could be super fun with Disney Muppets. There's there's a ton that could be
6:43
really fun. They just I think there's a And the funny part is you think of how many workers cross over like Muppet
6:49
performers and whatever. But um Wranglers, who knows the other. Yeah. Uh I would love this is so off topic. I
6:56
would personally love to go to Sesame for like a day and just watch everything unfold. Or Muppet Studios. I'd be okay with
7:02
either. Well, also but yes, both of them would be I would just sit there and be like, "Wow."
7:07
All right. Now that we've talked about Muppets, let's talk about ducks.
7:22
That is right. It is time for the Geek Miss Duck of the Week, which means we bring a rubber ducky out for
7:27
Speaking of Sesame, the Geekmiss Celebration. Yep, they're the one. Um, this week's rubber ducky
7:34
is a pineapple rubber ducky. I don't know if you can see him. There we go. Let's see if it squeaks.
7:39
Oh, don't flip it upside down. a little bit better. Don't flip it upside down.
7:44
Okay. I don't I don't know. But anyway, it is going I don't know what's going on, but it's going to go on the tree.
7:51
Hopefully, it stays there. Friend, what's this? What is this duck's name? We do need a name for the duck, so let
7:57
us know in the the comments. We'll return to that. Um, the way people treat the bumpets as real people is how I feel about Elmo.
8:02
First of all, they are real people. I have met Elmo. He has. It was pretty incredible. That's what
8:09
Taylor I don't know what's going on. But
8:14
anyway, this is our duck of the week and let us know whip.
8:21
We've got a I like that. Okay. Whip for pineapple do whip. Yeah.
8:28
Fun fact, did you know that the magic mirror's first appearance he was hawking CocaCola?
8:33
That is not accurate, but first live action appearance. Yes,
8:38
I was goofing. Whip is a fun name. Fjord as fjord as in pining for the fjords.
8:45
For the fjords. I I like that, too. That's really good. All right, we will we have two votes for
8:50
whip, though. So, keep voting in the comments and we'll decide by the end of the show and uh we'll see what happens,
8:57
I guess, right? Um, new things this week. We got a new magic key.
9:03
The thing nobody was expecting. It's a new magic key. It is new. It's the explore magic key.
9:08
It's replacing enchant. Yes. So, we will have another E. Um hopefully we can remember that it's a
9:15
second from the bottom. Is that right? It is. But so it's it's already when you said, "Hey, the enchant
9:21
key is going away." I literally turn and went, "Which one's that?" Yes. So, explore is replacing enchant.
9:27
And with the explore, you get to pay a little bit more. Not a lot more. It's like $25 more or something. And then you
9:35
get to um go to Pine Quackle.
9:41
That's I vote for that one. Actually, there's two and two now. Um so then for
9:47
the $25 more, you get to go to Disneyland in a couple of the days in
9:53
June and July that you normally wouldn't during the week because you're generally blocked out. What about January and February?
10:00
I don't know. So, no January, February. Oh, you're doing a bit. I got it. Yeah.
10:08
But what do you think of of tweaking the program, adding a new I think it's
10:14
great for a more accessible option. I also think, and this is where the math
10:20
doesn't work for me, when you're paying for parking full price, the passes just
10:25
don't make sense for me. If someone's dropping you off. Sure.
10:31
Well, if you're in a group, too, sharing a car. Sure. Because you could be splitting up the price or you could be going with
10:37
somebody that has the parking and you don't. So, it goes,
10:44
imagine, enchant, dream,
10:50
belief, or dream. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know. I honest adjectives. Um I
10:58
I do think it is a good option. Um I know some people that are in that realm
11:04
of they're in the enchant key. Um and so I think the explore key will
11:10
be something that is like it was believe. What did I say?
11:15
Something else. Okay. I don't know. Anyway, keep going.
11:21
Believe in holiday magic. Yes. Um, yeah. I I think it's a good thing that
11:27
there are more options and I think that you are correct in the fact that they had to do this instead of just opening
11:34
up reservations for actually. That wasn't my logic.
11:39
Oh, really? Do you tell my logic is they were going to change the enchant key, but you can't do that
11:44
without changing the contract. And to avoid a lawsuit, they had to change the name and change the program.
11:51
Well, yes. So, I think anytime we see changes in the future, we're going to see a completely
11:57
bye-bye and a hello to something new. What I was saying, um, also I just got called out over text message and the
12:03
person said they won't put it in the chat and I respect that, but I did just say those were all adjectives. Those are
12:10
not adjectives. I'm so sorry. I would like to publicly apologize. My notes apology will be up on Twitter later. Um,
12:17
I said imagine, inspire, dream. Those are not adjectives. Okay, I'm so sorry.
12:23
There we go. Um um I think Chris is right where he says to sell the key during the summer. It normally would be 100% blocked and not
12:29
sellable. Kind of the same thing. Um I do think it's interesting that they're opening up more dates in the summer cuz
12:35
really that's what this is about. Yes. Is getting more people in from a a lower
12:41
level pass during dates they normally blocked out, which says to me there weren't enough people last year, which
12:47
makes me wonder what they're expecting for this year. And are we going to see
12:52
other changes in the future? Like I mean this also goes into the realm of the fact that we're seeing um concierge
12:58
on the Disney cruise line 10% discounted. Um yes, the key tiers are also confusing
13:05
to us. Fun fact, but continue your thought. Um we are seeing a lot of things that
13:11
normally aren't discounted be discounted. And so the fact that this is opening up blockout dates, it's kind
13:18
of the closest thing that they get to Well, and there's discounts. So you think of the the Southern California thing going on this year, which you
13:24
basically can get in for $50 a day for the spring, which is is kind of ridiculous. There's some good uh hotel
13:31
deals. They're not doing any deals on parking right now, but you know, uh such is life. Have they ever done deals on parking?
13:37
No. I was being facitious. Um, I would be sh the day they do a deal on parking
13:42
is the day I'm very concerned for the Walt Disney Company. Um, like that would be
13:48
that's the day we started GoFundMe. That's that would be very concerning. But, uh, it will be interesting to see
13:54
what happens with this. Does it stay for next year? Like are there fewer or more
14:01
blockout dates next like 2027 being next year for the uh, explore key? Can I say
14:08
the thing that hopefully everyone's thinking? What? I would love to see reservations go away. I think we'd all love to see
14:13
reservations go away. I just don't think it's going to happen. I agree. I don't think it's going to happen. Or at least I'd like to see an
14:19
adaptation of the Walt Disney World system of like passholders don't need a reservation after 2 p.m.
14:24
Sure. I I don't know. Like I think there's too many people close by. I think it's kind of an all or nothing
14:30
thing here for us. Get it. And I would love to see them go away because I do think they add a level
14:36
of stress for the guest that I don't think Disney has fully quantified how
14:42
much because I've been helping people from out of town recently come to the parks that haven't been ever or for
14:47
years. And the general consensus always is is the headache to get there. Once
14:53
they're there, they're having fun. And I'm like I would think Disney does he'd want to get rid of the whole headache? But I don't know. What do I know? I I think
14:59
we're stuck with them. So, it's kind of just a and um it could be worse, I
15:04
guess. But, uh yeah, they're not my favorite. I don't know. Like, they're not
15:10
I just don't like I think there's other ways to to get what you want out of reservations without doing or being as strict for
15:18
reservations perhaps. All right. We have learned when the 70th entertainment will be returning for next
15:25
spring, which includes Paint the Night, which includes that wonderful 70th Cavalcade, Mickey and Minnie and all of
15:31
them in their fun 70th outfits, which we should note their holiday outfits are
15:39
70th outfits. Like they have references to the 70th celebration, which is very fun if you look closely at them. So, we
15:46
now know that on January 8th, Wondrous Journeys returns. That's also the day that the 70th outfits return. January
15:52
9th, the day after, is when the Cavalcade returns. We have to wait till January 30th
15:59
for Paint the Night to resume. What the heck? I know. Uh the 70th also goes through
16:04
August 9th, which we mentioned last week, but that's okay. Um, what do you think about the return dates and what
16:10
are you most looking forward to? And why is it paint the night? And why is it paint the night? Why is it
16:15
correct? You know me so well. I think I know everybody. So, I think that's what like the cavalcade's fun, outfits are
16:22
fun. It's all about paint the night. I think we all like to sing. Um I I'll
16:28
explain the reference to you later. It's okay. Um no, Paint the Night's just magical. And I think that there is
16:34
something about um yes, the fireworks are a kiss good night, but I think
16:39
there's something really nice about a nighttime parade. And you know what? Disneyland had the right idea in the 80s. A nighttime parade post fireworks.
16:49
You mean the 70s? Was it the 70s? Yeah, I guess that makes sense from how old
16:56
EP is. Um, sorry, I just remember the documentary I watched in Opera House
17:02
that was like very they were all in very ' 80s attire. Um,
17:07
yeah. I I think that Paint the Night is something that keep guest keeps guests
17:13
around longer. It makes the post firework
17:18
uh exodus not so bad cuz people are staying a little bit later for a second parade.
17:25
Um, and Paint the Night is also an encapsulation of magic in my opinion.
17:33
I just think it's fun. Uh, okay. That never mind. Um, I guess forget everything I said.
17:39
I see Caleb's hoping that after the 70th anniversary, we get the original World of Color. I would love the original
17:44
World of Color back. I love that idea. I would love World of Color back and Season of Light. No. Uh, Winter Dreams
17:50
back. Okay. But like World Winter Dreams is the original one, right? Christmas. Yes. Okay. Yeah.
17:57
Or am I thinking season light? I'm switching the two in my brain. So am I. I want the original Luminaria.
18:02
Um, I want the one with the choir. That was funny. I know, but I want the one with the
18:07
choir. I'm okay. Season light. So, my my initial thought was correct. Um, if Disney said, "Hey,
18:17
you know, we're done with these celebrations. We are bringing back World of Color Original."
18:23
I would probably sell my soul. You wouldn't have to. You just need to get a reservation.
18:29
For a reservation is what I would sell my soul for. you could just get the reservation and go on in. Um I I love World of Color Original.
18:36
Speaking of reservations, there were zero of them for this last weekend because everybody was camping out to see
18:42
Candlelight. Actually, not that many people were camping out for Candlelight. Um there weren't that many spots this
18:48
year. There were fewer standby spots, but Benjamin Brat was the Candlelight
18:53
narrator this year. He was a lot of fun. And we were at the park before park opening each day. stood there for about
18:59
11 hours each day in total. Um I figured in 48 hours I spent 22 of them at least
19:06
standing in town square. It was fantastic and my feel feet feet feel great. But um this year there were some
19:13
things that were different than in Candlelight. There was slight modifications to the script. I thought they were good modifications. Um it made
19:21
things flow a little bit smoother. Um the big changes though is operationally in Town Square. I thought more or less
19:29
everything ran very smoothly from how they set up chairs to how the guest control worked, especially the special
19:36
events people. Uh my one complaint is they did get rid of more standby viewing
19:42
so that they could help people uh move easier around town square. And I
19:48
honestly don't know that that was the best move. uh mainly because there's so few
19:54
decent standby viewing anyway. And when you get rid of I don't know a quarter of
20:00
that, a third of that. Um and then make most of the standby viewing behind
20:05
trees, I don't know. I I I that makes me feel a little bit eh. Um
20:11
but what was available was handled very well. I thought it was handled very kindly by the cast members. In fact, you
20:18
could tell that there was a lot of effort put into the culture of cast members and how they interacted with guests. And so there was just very
20:26
pleasant interactions throughout the weekend, which is fantastic. I didn't hear a single person yell stay to your
20:32
right. I didn't hear anybody saying you can't go, you know, like there just wasn't that panicked shouting that sometimes you get
20:39
in other years. And I get it cuz you want to stick with like, oh, this is our system. And when it's not the system,
20:45
that can get stressful. But clearly people had planned for that and they're like, "Oh, no. We're we're going to
20:50
we're going to treat people nicely no matter what." And I thought that was a huge win for Disney. Um the team was
20:56
fantastic. The performances were fantastic. I thought it was one of the best years musically. And um Benjamin
21:02
Brat was fantastic as well and the soloists were great too. Um what was your favorite part of Candlelight?
21:08
Uh no de Paz is probably one of my favorite parts. Um, mainly because like
21:14
everyone singing together is so magical. And I actually thought Benjamin Bratz's introduction of it was better than most.
21:20
And I don't know if that was intentional or if he's like, I know this, I'm going to say it. Yeah. Cuz it almost felt like I know this and
21:26
I'm going to say it as opposed to sticking exactly to script. No. And I I agree. Um, but there is
21:32
something to me like Silent Night is kind of towards the end of Candlelight
21:41
of the official ceremony and when everyone sings together
21:48
beautiful um and to me it's what Christmas is about is like this everyone
21:54
singing whether they're good or they're bad or what have you. Um,
22:00
it's kind of like an elf when they all sing. You better watch. No, but
22:05
but it is it's that it's it's the hallelujah chorus. Like you both have those um
22:11
those come together moments that are a lot of fun because the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear. It's so
22:17
true. It's like Fat Cat all those years, too. Um anyway, it's fantastic. We've got videos of both nights up. You can
22:23
check them out on the YouTube channel and if you don't want to miss them and if you haven't done it yet, you can help us get to I don't know what's next. Is
22:29
it a million? It's a million. Oh my. Oh my. So, we're a tenth of the way there. We just reached one level and
22:35
now we we have a much bigger level to go. All right, let's We are appreciating it. Um, last night
22:41
we went to a concert called Jolly Holiday with Noah. This is Noah and me. I've heard of him.
22:47
I have too. and he put on one of the most unique and fun holiday concerts
22:53
that you could ask for. And I will say this because you you go in and you're
22:59
like and he addressed it at the beginning of the concert. He's like, "You're coming into this concert, you hear the same holiday tunes at every
23:05
concert and you know, you're not going to hear any of them." He he switched to
23:11
and I thought that was fantastic. And so what he did was a tour of holiday Disney
23:16
music from the beginning of Disney to today all across the company. Whether it was
23:23
Disney, whether it was um what is it 20th Century that does Amphibia?
23:29
No, that was Disney. Yeah, but who produces it? I'm not sure. That's an actual Disney. It was Disney Channel.
23:35
Yeah, but who produc Okay, I'm not sure who either. Um, Phineas and Ferb,
23:42
Muppets, all of that. And they were all over the place. And it was a fantastic
23:48
night. It had even some really fun special guests. Whether it was Caitlyn Rob, the voice of Minnie Mouse, or Dan
23:56
Povvener, the voice of Dr. Dofen Schmmerz, who also happened to do what, Katie?
24:02
What do you mean do what? What did he do? Sing. There we go. What did he sing? There we go. Thank you. the I really don't hate
24:10
Christmas. Yeah, it was fantastic. It was hilarious. Very nice guy. I actually lost my marbles.
24:15
One of the highlights of the night was actually after the show when he was hanging out with the Marines cuz there was a Toys for Tot um fundraiser thing,
24:23
you know, bring your toys, whatever. And he was playing with a uh a Perry the
24:28
Platypus with the Marines, a Marine hat on them and taking a picture or a Marine hat on Perry taking a picture.
24:35
Great story. Absolutely fantastic. after dark. It was great. And then we also had um
24:42
I'm forgetting his name, the Jungle Cruise Skipper. That was fantastic. They wrote a live a new song. And
24:49
well, it was Noah and Kevin wrote a new song. Yes. But they performed the new song.
24:55
And then they also had Santa and the ghost of Christmas present and Gonzo show up. So,
25:00
oh my gosh, it was incredible. Fantastic. Uh great show, great night. If you get a chance, go see Noah. We
25:05
will have an article with more details up on it probably tomorrow morning. We will see. I can't believe what you didn't mention.
25:11
What's that? There was a penguin. There was a penguin puppet. Yes. It didn't have a name though and so I kind
25:17
of and it wasn't actually part of the show. Like it was just there before the show. So yeah, it it was great. All
25:25
right. We got also week this week news about Porto. The construction for Porto
25:31
has begun. We also got new concept art which you can see right here which shows a lovely seating area that's
25:37
indooroutdoor I'm going to call it. And um I am looking forward to not only
25:42
going to Porto on a normal day but seeing Portortos on a rainy day cuz I
25:48
think it will be hilarious. Um what do you think of the new Porto?
25:54
How much of the building do you think they're actually going to demolish? All of it. Okay. This is a new building
26:00
even though so much of the footprint's the same. It's a much bigger footprint. Well, yes, but
26:05
I don't see any way you keep the other building. Okay. I guess when I'm not seeing scale,
26:11
I can't really speak to this. Um I am excited. I The thing I'm most interested
26:18
in is like how much are they going to be charging for like the potato cheese
26:24
ball thing? Who knows? Don't know. But what do you think of the concept art? I think it's pretty
26:29
good. I think it fits in specifically with the Grand Californian. And that I know. I I like that.
26:35
That to me is what's important for Downtown Disney because cohesiveness.
26:41
Well, yeah. Something that Downtown Disney does not know the the definition of. Um, but
26:47
everything should fit with Grand Californian Hotel and Spa as a
26:54
centerpiece. So everything should fit into that realm.
26:59
And I think that this concept art, if executed the exact same way or even close to the same way the concept art
27:05
shows, I think it's going to do very well. I think it looks pretty. It'll be a lot of fun. I can't wait for it to rain.
27:11
What I'm really excited about though is Star Wars is coming back to theaters and it's the Star Wars that was seen in
27:16
1977, but it's been cleaned up and I
27:22
think this is the best gift that they could give Star Wars fans for the 50th anniversary cuz this is the Star Wars I
27:29
grew up watching. You know what that means, baby? Means that the open or the uh
27:36
it'll just say Star Wars. It's just going to say Star Wars. Yeah, the crawl. Like that's incredible. only say Star Wars. It will not say
27:42
episode 4. Okay, stick with Star Wars. We'll come back to that. Yeah. Um,
27:50
no. I I think it's going to be very exciting. Uh, there's not going to be any Mlunky. Um, there's not
27:57
I think McClunk is the most insane thing of the edits. I'm so sorry. Uh, oh, and
28:02
there is Chris Glass saying Mlunky. Um, yeah. I I have never seen Star Wars in
28:08
its original format. which is crazy to me because that's the one I grew up with. That's the one we recorded off TV
28:14
that you would watch and rewatch and watch and watch over and over and over again. And I remember seeing the 97
28:21
edit, I think it was, and just being like, "Huh?" Cuz it was technology that really
28:28
hadn't been revealed yet. And I've never fully thought it completely worked.
28:36
I have a question. And I have a question. Go quickly because we're almost out of time.
28:41
I have a question as somebody who's only 29. Um, so obviously it didn't say Star Wars or it didn't say episode 4, A New
28:48
Hope. Um, what did Empire and Return of the Jedi say when
28:55
they were first in theaters? I think they said The Empire Strikes Back in But did it say episode five? I think so.
29:01
Really? They'd already decided that earlier. Yeah, I'm pretty sure. That's what I remember. I guess. Um, this is one movie I really
29:08
can't wait to see in theaters and I really hope that this version ends up on
29:13
Disney Plus or a release or something because I just think that'd be a fantastic thing. Uh, finally, also Star
29:20
Wars news, Thomas Newman will be re um will be writing, I should say,
29:26
composing, there's the word I'm looking for. There you go. The music for Star Wars Starf Fighter, which I think is
29:33
interesting and also potentially really good. Um,
29:38
cuz I guess I'm getting stuck a little bit because you know him from Finding Nemo, Wall-E, Saving Mr. Danks, Banks,
29:45
Shaw Shank, Redemption. Like he's got a lot of different stuff he's done, but I
29:50
don't necessarily think of him as an action movie writer. Like a sci-fi
29:56
action. Yes, that's fair. I Well, while he's kind of sci-fi, yeah, but the the vibe is very ethereal
30:03
and and relaxing. I don't know the music for Shaw Shank off the top of my head, if I'm being
30:08
completely honest. I do know the music for Nemo. Um,
30:14
I'm saving Mr. Bank. It's be like everything he writes is gorgeous. Yes.
30:20
I don't think the Star Wars theme when I think of Thomas Newman. No. And they've said that they will not
30:26
be using John Williams cues. Kind of.
30:31
They said kind of. Okay. Sure. Reading further into the interviews, I'm
30:37
like, "Yeah, you just said you're not reusing the music. It sounds like they're gonna still do nods. I would not
30:42
be surprised at all if we hear John. I I we will see. I'm gonna I'm gonna
30:47
We will see. Yes. I'm gonna reserve judgment on that because I just feel like they've already
30:52
backtracked on that. Yeah, we'll see. Um I'm excited.
30:59
Um yeah, John Favo did both Iron Man and
31:05
Elf, so you never know. That's so true. Um, yeah. I I really don't know what to
31:11
think about this. Mainly because in my world, if you write good music, yay,
31:18
good music. Um, you obviously have a much more analytical music brain. And so, you're like,
31:24
I just think his music generally is stuff that's very relaxing and pretty. And
31:29
is the most relaxing Pixar score. Very much so. And when I think of Thomas
31:35
Newman, I think of that vibe. When I think of John Williams, I think Indiana Jones, Star Wars, you know, I think more
31:42
adventure, uplifting, en energetic, like it's really pushing you forward. Yeah, that's
31:48
that's a good example. And so I will be curious
31:54
like it'll be interesting to see what the vibe is. And the music changes the vibe of the movie so much. Like
31:59
yeah, it'll be very interesting to see. All right, it is time for that part of the show where we go to
32:10
comments. Comments. That's right. It's time for comments. If
32:16
you have any comments you'd like us to respond to, put them in the comments. Comments.
32:22
I have something I would like to say. Okay. Um, today at work, I found out that we played the
32:29
main title for Elf. um which was very exciting and I went, "Huh, I know this
32:35
song." And I couldn't place why I knew it because to be fair, when you work in the place that I do, you can't
32:42
immediately immediately place things either. Um and so I ran over to the music app and I said, "Let me see what
32:50
this is." And I had three three separate people go, "Katie, this
32:58
is Home Alone." And I went, "No, it's not."
33:03
Um, and then it was Elf. Cuzum Elf is a very good It's got a good
33:10
It's got a good theme. That's not Home Alone. Are you kidding me? No, it's not even close. Home Alone is this very like haunting.
33:20
Tiana, I think it's very classic Christmas, but yes. Uh, how is Elf the
33:25
Musical? I don't actually know Elf the Musical, so I'm not sure I can help that. Um, Katie respond to my comment
33:32
about D. I would love to. I was cut off. Was that up higher up? Yes, I was cut off from responding to
33:37
it. This one. She may not have cohesion, but she has a product of DCA 1.0. Correct. And you
33:42
know what DCA 1.0 is good at? Being insane. I say as I look at a map of DCA
33:48
1.0. You know what the the overarching theme of DCA 1.0 is? Mess. Um, we have
33:58
Sorry, I'm just looking at this here. Uh, let's let's just go into the lands. Paradise Pier.
34:05
That's not really a theme. It was kind of like a wooden uh pure
34:10
Santa Cruz beachside attraction. Sure. Santa Monica, whatever one you want to pick. Um, and then there is that Golden State.
34:20
Golden State. Cool. I Sorry, I can't see from here. Camaro.
34:26
So, Golden State is what is uh now like the Wararf
34:31
kind of, but it's also the entrance to Cars Land. And but Golden State really is entrance to Cars Land, entrance to uh
34:39
Avengers Campus back in the day. That's also the war though because that's
34:44
Yeah. But that's that whole area. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And then you also have Hollywood
34:50
pictures backlot which is Muppets. Hollywood. It's still Oh, well that
34:55
part's not there. It is Muppets. It is. So that's like Hollywood. Uh what is
35:02
Crap? I can't think of what it's called. Uh Blast. It's Blast. That's what I was
35:07
looking for. Uh it's Blast. It is Super Step in Time first, wasn't it?
35:14
Was it Step in Time and then Blast? Mhm. You were actually alive for I was alive
35:19
for this. I shouldn't say that. I was alive for DC 1.0. Don't really have any memory of it. Um
35:27
what's crazy to me is like the middle and the bottom part they literally went
35:33
I don't know, man. Um cuz that's See, I kind of disagree. I actually do
35:38
think that California Adventure when it opened did represent California pretty
35:44
well. The problem was is the focus of what it represented. It's different parts of California. Like
35:50
it's the problem is is what it represented or the way they represented it was not necessarily Disneyified
35:58
enough. And I think if they'd have leaned more into the Disney representation of California, it could have been better as
36:05
opposed to saying, "Let's make some really big walkways and really big stores." And instead of running away
36:11
from Disney, because what's more Disney than California, run towards it or
36:16
what's more California than Disney, I should say. Um I I would like to say I agree with Chris. We do need more water play areas.
36:23
Um we literally were talking with a friend the other day about the SS Russworthy. Um and we were like sitting and we're
36:31
like, well that's where the SS Rustworthy was and this is where like I think the SS Russworthy was a lot of
36:36
fun. I also think Bugs Land had a great splash pad. Um, something that really doesn't exist in DCA anymore. Um,
36:47
which is a shame. Oh, sorry. Um, I'm just looking at
36:52
things that don't exist anymore like Malibumer, Orange Stinger,
36:58
um, the Sunheision. I mean, most of it doesn't exist
37:04
anymore. If you're That's sad. The only thing there's
37:10
the little creek in Redwood. Yeah, we can throw the ducks. I thought Speaking of ducks,
37:16
I thought you were going to say the only thing left that is in its original form. Anyone
37:22
jumping jellyfish? Jump jelly. Mhm. Which I don't think that attraction's
37:28
ever going to go anywhere. I'm not going to put any money either way. So, I I don't know because the
37:35
footprint's so small. You never know. All right. I would like to talk about DCA 1.0,
37:40
which has I was just talking Oh, that got close. I was just talking about that
37:46
new attraction poster. Mandarin Pe look like the orange stinger. Yeah. But did
37:51
it have bees inside of it? That was the part of Orange Stinger that made no sense.
37:56
There you go. Inside. There's no one in here but the bees.
38:01
another attraction that doesn't exist anymore. Uh yes. Um
38:08
I I actually saw your comment about the height chart thing. Um yeah, I I really
38:16
like the jump and jellyfish poster. All right. What should people do, Katie? Oh, you should go to appsmagic.com.
38:23
You personally should check out all the Disney and geek news as it happens. Um you should subscribe to our mailing
38:30
list. so you are a part of all the Disney and positive stuff as it happens. And also
38:36
go to patreon.comdapsmagic. We've got a show in like five minutes.
38:44
That is Let's see how quick we can turn it around as a post show for this show called Daps After Dark.
38:50
There you go. Make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel. We have a lot of videos going up. I think I'm going to put individual songs up from
38:55
Candlelight. Let me know if you like that idea in the comments and we may or may not do that. But I do recognize
39:01
people like specific songs and that might make life easier. So, we might make that happen. We've also got a lot
39:06
of holiday stuff still to go up, including, I believe, Crazy Kirk and the Hillbillies and some other fun stuff.
39:12
But that is all the time we have for you this week. So, we will see you around the corner. Bye.
