Welcome to Geeks Corner! This week is the week of Thanksgiving, or in the case of Geeks Corner, it is the week of SPAMsgiving! There is a lot to geek out about though. The Haunted Mansion expanded grounds are now open. Mr. Daps also got to visit Walt Disney Animation Studios and learn about what is coming from D23 in 2025 and also see Moana 2. He shares about the experience and the tour he received during the show. This is followed by a SPAMsgiving video where Mr. Daps and Caitie both create a Thanksgiving dish with SPAM…turning it into a SPAMsgiving dish. They then rate which one is the best. Finally, Lilo & Stitch have a new teaser trailer that they talk about. The show wraps up with a discussion about the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D to make way for a Monsters, Inc. land. Haunted Mansion the extended Q expanded grounds why do you make that sound like

friend a friend of mine is watching The Two Towers exp extended edition right now actually I don't think I ever what

that's what a four and a half hour movie uh closer to three and a half four yeah it's long it's long um anyway haunted

mansion's extended queue is now open it open this morning we saw the walls come down yesterday and I will just say I

think it adds a lot to not just the queue but also the views of the Haunted Mansion correct

this to me in my opinion mhm I think before it felt like an

attraction queue and not we stumbled upon a creepy old mansion this to me is like oh we

stumbled upon a creepy old mansion and we're walking through the grounds not like um it was the switchbacks that

really killed it for me before the ones outside the outside switchbacks yeah I mean and the ones in the yard too like

in the back oh I was saying the ones outside no oh they did the extended

ones too like there was I'm not talking about those one I'm talking about the ones near the um

old uh tombstones okay yeah past the animal yeah they didn't they didn't

really have a lot of theming well it was just like we need to fit people um and so this I think is a great way to do

both and it feels really true to the theming and I'm really excited to see it when spoiler leota's opens this winter

because I think that it's all going to come together very nicely as one like property which we now have a name for

that it's Madame Leota somewhere beyond shop and uh Madam Lo is somewhere beyond

and it is a shop I guess because shop is not a part of the name but it also looks cool they showed concept art of that and

we got to see inside um what it's going to be like and the vibe and it feels very ethereal and mystical and and

fitting for what you would expect for something like that and I like the story they told how it used to be carriage

house and then she moved into it and then it became the shop and she's got upstairs and like it's it's a it makes

sense like it works to me I think it's fun I love spooky things I love ghosty

things um and so this to me is all really coming together to tell a very interesting story and um it's going to

be crazy to me to think that this upcoming generation of Disney Parks fans

is going to be like oh my gosh it used to look like that um um because this to

me feels much more natural and I think we're finally competing with Magic

Kingdoms Haunted Mansion queue I think it's better ours is or theirs is this one is now oh I agree but I was saying

like we're finally in the same league yeah because before I did not feel that we were in the same league in the

slightest well and to me this is more the direction of Phantom Manor which is my favorite version of The Haunted

Mansion so I I think it's been a really um solid upgrade I guess is a good way

to put it and I'm glad they did it and I can't wait to walk through it myself I did have a friend walk through it

tonight and it took I think he said 45 minutes and he said it you kept moving the whole time okay because they do have

an elevator at the end for Mobility devices to go up and uh apparently that

helps keep things moving a little bit better and which makes sense because if you think in general if you can keep it

keep the the um Omni movers moving all the time correct without having to do the Stop and starts for or taking people

on and off like that should help a lot and um we'll see like it's I think it

looks really cool and I like the little details and the statues and the the nods to Madame Leota in the queue and uh and

just the the different viewpoints you now get of the Mansion itself yeah I think are really cool and uh I want to

go take pictures I think the only thing the only thing that Haunted Mansion and

Magic Kingdom has over us now is towed in the pet cemetery

we haven't seen the cemetery right now so we don't know that something's ever happening we don't know maybe very true

right this week has been a very exciting week for daps magic because yesterday I had the opportunity to go to the Walt

Disney Animation Studios and not only see Moana but also he from d23 about what's coming in the future which means

some events but also new versions of the gold plan uh gold membership plan is

that what they call it yeah yeah um next year is gonna be an exciting year they have destination d23 coming back that'll

be at Walt Disney World at Coronado at the end of August Coronado huh because they're making it twice the size so it's

gonna be a bigger destination d23 it I would not be surprised if we hear a lot about a lot of details about the things

that were announced this last year d23 the ultimate Disney Fan event um I would expect to hear like more specifics as

well like stuff like that we're getting the d23 spotlight series which look like they're going to

be very cool um and that's that's really something they're building with the um

the Walt Disney archives and there'll be events both in in California and then also Florida there's GNA be virtual um

presentations this year so people from all over the country and around the world can uh see these different presentations some of them looked really

cool um including the uh the musical celebration of Richard M Sherman like

they're going to take elements of that that we saw at d23 and they're G to make another program that's kind of like that

but but different that'll be a part of this virtual thing and Tim oale will be hosting that uh there's obviously the

return of the official Studio tours there's gonna be more of them this year which I think is a great thing one of

the best things I think they're adding though is the Walt Disney's Walt Disney's Los Angeles tour and that's a

tour that's being uh curated by the Walt Disney archives in d23 that takes you on

a tour of Los Angeles through the lens of Walt Disney's experiences so you're

going to places wal went you're eating at places Walt went you're going to the studios um to me this is perhaps the

most exciting thing they announced for Disney F Walt Disney fans in particular um for uh for 2025 and then they'll also

do their their anniversary celebrations that they've done in previous years and uh this will include Disneyland's 70th

Anniversary but you also have the 35th anniversary of Home Alone you have the 30th anniversary of A Goofy Movie 30th

Anniversary all also Toy Story holy and perhaps most importantly the 25th

anniversary of emperor's new Grove and on top of that if you're not tired of it

yet there's going to be a d23 kns with Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center which is brand new and they're going to have

another night or day with the Angel Stadium and the angels uh for d23 day

and that's in May um but there's a ton of things coming there's also new membership levels well not new

membership levels but new version of the gold Plan and there's multiple different

options you can get okay depending on like you could just do a general like the uh what do they call it uh the

essential plan which is basically what we have like it's a very it's your introductory thing you get your little

which is called the happiest place on Earth and that's written by joh Don Hanan and former imagineer Christopher

us pages of this and there was a lot of stuff that a lot of people that are very

embedded in the Walt Disney Company had never seen because they went out and they did research not just in the Walt

Disney archives but maybe they went to Arizona University of Arizona maybe they went to Michigan maybe they went to MIT

like they went to all these places that had connections one way or another to Disney and discovered way more stuff

that we've just never seen and uh this book really focuses on from 1949 to 1966

so basically the Walt era of Disneyland from its Inception till when he died and

um the pictures they showed the like there's a map of like one of the early

renderings of Disneyland when it was still Mickey Mouse Park and it was supposed to be literally where we were sitting watching this where uh the

animation studio is where they were thinking about oh we'll just do it right across the street from the Walt Disney Studios and there was a version of that

and they had the picture of Walt looking at this version of that and most people have never seen this this map or this

version before so very cool um I actually think probably the uh the

spirit jersey might be the most popular one probably but um I mean the Hat one too like the fan pack probably be

popular too like all four of them are really good and if you do want all four of them there is an option for that it's

called the gold complete plan and that's $300 um yeah right but uh for one of the single

Choice plans it's $99 which that's a little bit more reasonable because I'm guessing this book is at least $65 oh

amount of time I was like probably 90% of it was stuff I've never seen before everything you just

said is so incredible and I love that I also just want to touch on the fact that

you said and then I talking to Mar Michael Vargo and then we got this presentation from Don Han and Becky

Klein like that was just the most insane it was a very good day that's awesome

and and we also got a tour like so this was before we saw Mo 2 and I'll talk about that in a minute um so we we hear

about all of these things coming from d23 and they're really awesome then we watch Moana 2 which I'll come back to in

a minute but then before they give us a reception in a swag bag which I probably

should have brought on the show but I forgot um they gave us a tour of the Animation Studios and I have been covering Disney

for 20 years I have never been able to get into the Animation Studios like I've done events lots and lots and lots of

events at the Walt Disney Studios but I've never gotten to go across the street and into the giant hat so this is

me actually after I'd been in the Hat but this is in front of the Walt Disney Animation Studios it was super cool um

one of the producers of Frozen 3 actually took this picture um for me because she's like oh you have to do it

this way and you have to do it at 0. five because then you can get the full um the full all the letters and the full

like you can get everything in the picture that way like she had it figured out just like and you have to stand

right in front of that in that green box and I'm gonna be down here like it was amazing Queen um beginning of our tour

they showed us the Oscars and other awards that the Walt Disney Animation Studios have won um if you look at the

bottom left second row um I believe that was the honorary uh Oscar for Mickey

Mouse if my memory serves um one of the hallways there's this incredible Tangled

uh uh mural and Clare Kean who is Glenn Kean Disney Legend um Glen Kean his

daughter Claire actually did this and when she first did this the wall went

all the way through there was no door here as you see there and when they didn't an upgrade or they refurbished

the studios a couple years ago I think it was 2016 she said uh they put this door in and actually on the other side

of this door is where they watch their dailies for whatever movie they're working on every day but they had to

bring Claire back in to paint around the door and make sure that the the uh mural

still worked then you're just walking around and there's some stairs you know you might have seen some characters

going up and down these stairs for uh Once Upon a studio but in this case

almost reminds me of Pixar with the static figures there there's very very there's quite a few similarities um

right there is the kind of a lounge area um if you were to turn around directly

from here you would have seen uh I think I have a picture of it yep there it is

um that's the patch which is where you get your uh coffee do you know the reference to the patch

was Kristoff comes by and he's like come on Puppies You're gonna have nightmares very fun um random hallway I

or something I don't remember we couldn't go down that one but it was super cool uh then looking the other way you've got concept art you've got stuff

from uh from Moana 2 you look down here this was a hallway we also walked

through I just thought it was cool to see where things come together and come to life and then perhaps the coolest

2 do it okay so I watched Moana 2 you have any questions is it good yes okay

did you like it I did um I was actually very pleasantly surprised with the whole thing um I've got the full review up on

the site but I will say this it's a solid movie it moves along at a decent pace it starts I'm gonna say at a kind

of like second gear and then it picks up like it's not slow at any point but it

definitely has a slower Pace at the beginning than as it moves on um it has a ton of heart it has some really good

relationships in it um there's some really good family connections and nods

and um and there's some real good

like costs like there's good like they really have to um sacrifi like there's

good sacrifice um I'm gonna say it's not better than the first there's elements

of it that are but I think the music in the first is better sure in many ways I almost

liked the story of the second one better and it's it's not an ensemble cast but

there's a lot more supporting characters um that really I thought

added a lot to it especially moana's family and sister and um and even the

relationship between Maui and Moana was really like it was nice to see that continue to grow and develop and um the

music fits with the original I just didn't think they were quite as iconic as the first films music

um I also think you guys can tell me this when you've seen it and you can too I think

it opened the door to the new MCO and that would be the Moana Cinematic Universe here's my question and it's not

a bad thing I was actually like it finished and I turned to my friend that

was with me and I was like H so they just made the new MCU huh I was like and

I'm okay with this because it didn't feel contrived it didn't feel like a money grab didn't feel cheap it felt

like oh we just created this story and the door is open now for if you want to walk through it great because there's

some options they could do and if you don't totally fine it ended in a good place what's your

question does it feel serialized because it was originally intended to be a series

so mostly no okay but there's one or two characters where you can tell that we're

probably like they would make I'm betting they had much bigger roles I'm gonna say okay in if it if it had

been a series okay um and I actually think that's probably also why this is

better as a movie than a series because I think if we' had to go through a couple episodes at the beginning then it

would have felt slow at the beginning in fact I bet it probably would not have done super well because it definitely

builds and um but no I thought I thought they did a pretty good job and you

didn't have that moment of like oh well that was the end of that episode like yeah I mean there's places that as I'm

thinking about it now I'm like okay I'm guessing it probably would have been there like I can think of a couple

places that were natural pivot Points but they weren't like a hard you know like sometimes you watch um stuff on

Disney Plus or Hulu or whatever that originally did have advertisements in

them and you're like oh there was the moment where the ad cut was it didn't have that I didn't think it was that

okay like I thought they did a nice job with it all right speaking of nice jobs oh and two thumbs up hat tip not going to take

the hat off because it was not a beauty in the Beast it was not an aladdin it was not um Frozen like it was not a um

once in a generation movie and and with beauty the Beast laddin and Lion King I

think we got three in one generation which is shocking but um Donan worked on

really enjoyed it go out and see it um I I think it was very conducive to the big

screen also like I just thought it was really beautiful on the big screen and this the screening room in uh the Walt

Disney Animation Studios awesome surround sound like it started and everybody there wanted to watch the

movie so it was quiet good so the movie going experience was great um all right

another great experience we had this last week was we realized with Thanksgiving coming and this year being

a celebration of spam we should celebrate spam with Thanksgiving and make our own spam's giving thanks to

Clocky who came up with the name and uh and so we thought it would be fun to

challenge ourselves to incorporate spam into Thanksgiving thereby creating

spans giving and so what we did is we um we basically uh what's the

best way to put this created I don't know we we created our

version of spam's giving if we were to take Thanksgiving leftovers and spam and put them together

so enjoy our spam's giving celebration that we shot few days ago week ago

Thanksgiving ingredients I guess you could say what are you going to make kitty judges tonight I have before for

I'll be making uh Spam sliders with Hawaiian sweet rolls and sweet

potato and spam and and green bean casso I was to say we're both usingen green

bean casserole I am making a spam's giving pastry puff pastry I didn't

actually come up with the name but kind of a turnover but not exactly fam's giving turnover yeah we're gonna see how

I'm kind of making this up as I go along but I'm using puff pastry I've got gravy I've got cranberry sauce uh mashed

potatoes and of course green bean casserole and spam so we are going to cook our dishes we'll show you part of

the process then we're going to try our dishes and we'll let you know which one we like the best we'll see hopefully
