On this day in 1930, the first contract for licensed Disney merchandise was signed to combat a growing market of bootleg products. Roy O. Disney signed a deal with the M. George Borgfeldt Company to sell toys and figurines of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Disney would receive royalties of 2 1/2% on items costing 50 cents or less and 5% for more expensive items. Unfortunately, it was hard for the small Disney Studio to regulate the quality of the products. [95 years ago in 2025]
