Live-Action ‘Robin Hood’ No Longer Happening at Disney

The live-action Robin Hood that was in the works at Disney is no more. The project, which was announced in 2020, would have seen the Disney animated version of the film from 1973 made by filmmaker Carlos López Estrada. Estrada revealed in a recent Reddit AMA that the film was no longer happening, however.

During the AMA, Estrada was asked about the project. He replied, “It’s dead, sadly.” Continuing with his written response, he said, “I say ‘sadly’ because I actually thought there was something really special (and original!) there. Some truly extraordinary music we had figured out for it.” He also said, “I keep daydreaming about doing it independently with different characters.”

The live-action Robin Hood was purported to be a live-action/CGI hybrid film if it had happened. The script was being written by Kari Granlund. Granlund also wrote the script for Lady and the Tramp, the first original film made for Disney+. It was believed that Robin Hood was originally destined for Disney’s streaming service as well.

While this live-action remake of a Disney animated film may not happen, this does not mean that Disney is stopping its live-action remakes. This summer, a live-action version of Moana will be arriving in theaters. Disney is also working on a live-action version of Tangled as well. Recently, it was revealed that Australian actress Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim of Disney’s Zombies franchise will be taking on the roles of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. A live-action Hercules is also in the works from director Guy Ritchie.
