On Friday, March 13, 2026, Knott’s Berry Farm celebrated the reopening of the historic Bird Cage Theatre. The 72-year-old theatre had undergone a substantial renovation that made it look better than ever. Throughout the theatre, the theme of the bird cage could be seen. This ranged from new gates in the corners that were reminiscent of a bird cage, light fixtures hanging from the ceiling, and even the recreation of wallpaper from days gone by. The theatre also saw technological upgrades that included sound treatment, environmental treatments, and even new lighting!

To celebrate the reopening of the Bird Cage Theatre, Knott’s invited special guests and members of the media for a special performance of The Great Bank Robbery. This melodrama, which debuted last year during the Knott’s Boysenberry Festival, had been slightly modified for this year’s festival. This added extra humor and smoother pacing. Below is this special performance:
After the performance, a panel came to the stage to talk about the renovation. This included some memories from the past, dating back to 1974 when one of the performers named Dale first took to the stage he now sat on. The group also talked about the discovery of some treasures during the process of renovating the theatre. This led to the changes in the renovation. It also led to the completion of a renovation that makes this theater better than ever before. It also sets it up for its next 72 years in its history. The panel can be seen here:
The panel concluded with a toast of Boysenberry Champagne and Boysenberry cake. The top of the two sheet cakes recreated the wallpaper around the renovated theatre. The center cake was a beautiful recreation of the Bird Cage Theatre.

Guests can now see The Great Bank Robbery in the Bird Cage Theatre during the run of Knott’s Boysenberry Festival. This runs from March 13 through April 12, 2026. It includes plenty of entertainment, activities, and a plethora of delicious dishes with Boysenberry in them (read about the preview here).
