Floral Minnie Mouse Greets Guests to Disneyland During Women’s History Month

Throughout most of the year, a floral Mickey Mouse can be found at the entrance of Disneyland in front of Main Street Station. Every day, thousands of guests pose in front of the floral Mickey and train station as they start their day at The Happiest Place on Earth! During the month of March, they can do the same with a floral Minnie Mouse. Minnie takes Mickey’s place for Women’s History Month. This has been a tradition in recent years at the Disneyland Resort. This tradition started in 2022.

“There have been some seasonal changes over the years,” said Horticulture Manager Sarah Day in 2022 after her team installed the display overnight. “But Mickey Mouse has always been the star of the show … until now!”

Horticulture Specialist Stacy Wise created the design in collaboration with her team. “I’m really excited to show my family,” said Stacy, whose passion for horticulture blossomed as a child while helping her father with his landscaping business. “I’m looking forward to getting my picture with the Minnie Mouse design and sending it to my dad.”

Stacy was tearful as she explained what this moment meant to her. “It’s amazing that we’re having this step for Women’s History Month, and having Minnie Mouse featured is fantastic,” she said. “Minnie Mouse is just as iconic as Mickey Mouse, and she needs a little face time.”

Women’s History Month at Disney

March is celebrated each year as Women’s History Month. This is a time to honor women throughout history, share their stories, and celebrate their achievements. This particular form of celebration seems appropriate as the original floral Mickey Mouse was designed by landscape architect Ruth Shellhorn. Walt Disney brought her in to help create a cohesive experience for guests as they entered Disneyland and explored the park with the use of plants and landscape. Shellhorn’s story is one of many stories of women’s contributions and achievements for The Walt Disney Company through the years. Some of these can be found on the windows on Main Street, USA.

For cast members, there are also opportunities to celebrate the month and connect with other cast members through one of the Business Employee Resource Groups (BERGS) called the Women’s Inclusion Network (WIN). This BERGS’ mission is to highlight and elevate the powerful influence of diverse women on culture, people and market, as champions of inclusion, education, development, mentorship, and even sponsorship.
