When The Magic of Disney Animation opens later this summer at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, there will be many different experiences for guests to enjoy. These experiences will help tell the story of Disney animation as it has been magically made by the Walt Disney Studios for over 100 years. This includes opportunities to learn how to draw Disney characters with Olaf, be “Drawn into Wonderland” in a fun and playful way, and also meet with some favorite Disney friends (to name a few things).
Fans who want to meet some of their favorite Disney friends can visit “Off the Page!” There, they will be able to meet favorite friends from Walt Disney Animation Studios stories while celebrating the artistry behind every frame. There will be photo opportunities found throughout this area that will give opportunities for some fun interactions. For example, guests might meet Mulan in the Story department and pose in front of an oversized storyboard panel. Over at the Layout department, they might find Rapunzel waiting in a setting that is inspired by the classic multiplane camera. This will showcase the layers of backgrounds and painted cells that come together like magic.
Each of these spaces while highlight key stages that are a part of the animation process. These locations will have added life and magic with the character encounters. So far, Disney has revealed that guests might meet the following characters:
- Mulan in Story
- Rapunzel in Layout
- Chip n’ Dale in Hand-Drawn Animation
- Donald and Daisy in CG Animation
- Goofy in Lighting
- Stitch in Effects
Disney has shared that every corner of “Off the Page!” is designed to immerse guests in the craft of animation. This experience was created in collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney Animation Studios. Dan Abraham, the director from Walt Disney Animation Studios and co-director of the Once Upon a Time short, said that he can’t wait to see what guests dream up after visiting the space.
“It’s so cool because you’re waiting in line to have fun with the characters… and you’re getting to see a bit of history of the studio as well,” Abraham said. “It could very well inspire people to move our studio into the future when they [join Walt Disney Animation Studios] and carry on this legacy that has meant so much to so many people.”
