Recently, Disney revealed that Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim will be playing Rapunzel and Flynn Rider in its live-action Tangled. At one point, Scarlett Johansson was connected with this film as Mother Gothel. This is not the case anymore, however. Disney is now in talks with Kathryn Hahn to play Mother Gothel in the film.

If Hahn ends up taking on this role, it would not be the first time she has taken on a dark magic role. She portrayed Agatha Harkness in WandaVision and Agatha All Along. This is a role that earned her an Emmy nomination. She also earned a Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal.

The role of Mother Gothel is a delightful one that is both witty and has a great song, Mother Knows Best, that is very easy to imagine Hahn taking on. Hahn has had extensive experience on television, the silver screen, and the theatrical stage throughout her career.

If she ends up in the role, Hahn will join Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim in the film. Teagan Croft has previously been seen as Raven in the DC series Titans. She also appeared in True Spirit as Jessica Watson. In this Australian film, she was a teenage sailor who attempted to go on a trip around the globe. The film streamed on Netflix in 2023. Milo Manheim is most well-known to Disney fans for his role in Disney Channel’s Zombies movies. He has also been in School Spirits on Paramount+ and Seymore in a revival of Little Shop of Horrors. 

Disney’s live-action Tangled is being directed by Michael Gracey. He has previously directed other musical films, including Better Man and The Greatest Showman. Kristen Burr is producing the film after producing last summer’s Freakier Friday. She also produced Disney’s live-action Cruella in 2021. The script was written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Previously, she has written scripts for Do Revenge and Thor: Love and Thunder.
