Avatar: Fire and Ash has seen its run at the top of the box office end. This weekend, Mercy took the top spot. Mercy earned $11.2 million at the domestic box office, and Avatar 3 took $7 million over the weekend. This was followed by Zootopia 2, which brought in $5.7 million over the weekend. The results seem to indicate that the fire behind this new Avatar is not quite as hot as the two films in the franchise that came before.
To date, Fire and Ash has earned $1.378 billion globally. This is a significant chunk of change. However, it isn’t at the level of its predecessors. Avatar earned $2.9 million globally during its theatrical run. Avatar: The Way of Water earned $2.3 billion. Both of these films took the top spot at the box office for seven weekends consecutively. Avatar: Fire and Ash sees its run at the top spot cut short at just six weekends in the top spot.
Meanwhile, Zootopia 2 has showed what a powerhouse it is at the box office. As of now, it has taken in $1.744 billion globally. This makes it the highest-grossing animated film from Hollywood of all time. It also holds the same distinction for movies from Walt Disney Animation Studios. The new animated film will be available for digital download starting January 27, 2026.
