The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! is currently being shown in a modified form at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This comes after an incident yesterday with the opening scene of the stunt show. At the beginning of the show, the scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark is recreated with Indiana Jones seeking out an idol. Just like in the film, the moment he grabs it, a massive boulder comes rolling down after Indy.
On Tuesday, the massive boulder, which is really a 400 lb rubber ball, jumped the tracks. As it bounced toward the audience, a cast member jumped in front of it and was thrown to the ground as he also diverted the ball. The cast member was injured, received stitches, and is now recovering in a local hospital. He is also being hailed as a hero as he stopped the ball from injuring the audience as it bounced toward them.
The modified version of the show has Indiana Jones grabbing the idol and then doing a quick flip, and then the scene comes to a conclusion. The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! opened on August 25, 1989, at what was then Disney-MGM Studios. It was the first Indiana Jones attraction in the Disney Parks. While it has had modifications through the years, the bulk of the show has remained fairly similar to what it was when it opened. Here is a video of the show from 2022:
At this point, Walt Disney World Resort has not provided any comment on the incident. It isn’t known when the boulder will be returning to the show at this point. Generally, this would happen after a safety review is conducted. Daps Magic will continue to monitor this story and provide updates as they become available.
