Happy Thanksgiving! It’s hard to believe it, but we are already here! In my family, there is a tradition of watching a movie we once saw on TV in the late 80s. The film is called The Thanksgiving Promise. It stars Lloyd Bridges, Beau Bridges, Jordan Bridges, and Jason Bateman and was directed by Beau Bridges. The movie is about Travis, a teenage boy who is hired by a neighbor to care for an injured goose and raise him to be Thanksgiving dinner. However, as time goes by, he bonds with the goose. This forces him to decide if he should follow his heart or stay true to his word. This is a Disney movie that has plenty of different life lessons in it. They especially resonated for a country boy growing up in the Midwest.
Decades later, it isn’t the most polished movie in the world. It will never win any awards. It does, however, have a lot of heart and is a classic feel-good Disney film. It is one I throw on each year, often for the nostalgia factor. It is also fun to see so many members of the Bridges family working on a project together. There are also some humorous moments to contrast with the heartfelt ones.
