On this day in 1990, the Mickey Mouse animated featurette ‘The Prince and the Pauper’ was released in theaters alongside ‘The Rescuers Down Under.’ The story was adapted from Mark Twain’s classic tale of the same name from 1881. Mickey is a poor boy in Medieval England who exchanges lives with a prince who looks exactly like him. The villainous Captain Pete finds out and plots to take over the kingdom. This was the last short produced with hand-painted cel animation. [35 years ago in 2025]
