Pumpkin Carving Doug at Disneyland Hotel

Pumpkin Carving Delights Guests During Halloween Time at Disneyland Resort

If there were heralds of Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort, they would have to be the pumpkins. There’s the iconic Mickey pumpkin at the head of Main Street, the massive pumpkins decorating the main entrance gates, the pumpkins that join Walt and Mickey at the central plaza, and, of course, the Pumpkin Festival all along Main Street. To wind up spooky season, the Disneyland Resort has brought back live pumpkin carving.

The demonstrations and finished offerings can be found at the Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel on selected dates. The event started on October 19, and there are still a few opportunities left to see a live artist at work. Remaining dates are October 26, October 28, and Halloween night, October 31. The demonstrations take place at the Disneyland Hotel from 12:15 to 3:30, and at the Grand Californian from 5:00 to 8:00.

This year, there is a new artist in residence, Doug Marsh. Doug has been sculpting pumpkins for some twenty-five years. As a long-time Disney fan, he is happy to immerse himself in Halloweentime as he contributes to the spooky merriment. This year, the emphasis was on Haunted Mansion at the Disneyland Hotel and Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa… although Doug does stray into other Disney Halloween and character themes with his carving.

Sharp-eyed guests will be able to spot some of Doug’s handiwork around the Resort hotels, as well. Look for them at the Disneyland Hotel main lobby desk, Storyteller’s Cafe, the Craftsman’s Grill pool bar, and at Tenaya Stone Spa.

Part of the fun, of course, is seeing the work in progress. Doug is happy to show guests what it takes to turn an ordinary pumpkin into the ethereal Madame Leota. Be sure to catch her and Doug before Halloweentime ends on Friday, October 31.
