Disney Legend Andreas Deja Consulting on Villains-Themed Land at Magic Kingdom

There were a lot of fun things that came out of Destination D23 this last weekend. One of them revolved around the upcoming Villains-Themed Land that will be created in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort. During a panel on this upcoming land, it was confirmed that Disney Legend and former Walt Disney Animation Studios animator Andreas Deja is consulting on this project.

Deja is known for bringing some of Disney’s favorite villains to screen. This includes Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, Jafar in Aladdin, and Scar in The Lion King. When the announcement was made, a video was shown with Deja. He shared that these characters are some of the best source materials for Imagineers to utilize and reference when conceptualizing the land. They have big personalities, bold visuals, and rich backgrounds. This will influence the overall ambiance and the experience that guests will have while visiting in the future. Check out the video below!

The panel on the Villains-Themed Land also dove into the inspiration that is being utilized to create this land. At this point, it appears that the name for this new Magic Kingdom land hasn’t been revealed. It also appears that it might not be simply “Villains Land” with it currently be officially referenced by Disney as the “Villains-Themed Land.” Presumably, this means that a real name for the land, that is a part of the story being told, will be revealed at a later date. With D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event being announced this weekend for next August. That is a possibility.

What do you think of Andreas Deja working on this project? Are you excited about it? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
