Matt Smith Joins ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ as Villain

Matt Smith has gone from Doctor Who to House of the Dragon to now a Galaxy Far, Far Away. Deadline is reporting that the actor has joined Star Wars: Starfighter as one of the villains in the film. This film was announced earlier this year at Star Wars Celebration. Ryan Gosling is starring in the Shawn Levy-directed film. Mia Goth is also a part of the cast.

Star Wars: Starfighter

Star Wars: Starfighter is set to film this fall. The film’s story is set about five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Gosling will play a brand-new character. It will be arriving in theaters on May 28, 2027.

This is not the first time that Smith was set to join the Star Wars universe. Previously, he was connected with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Journalist Josh Horowitz asked Smith on the Happy Sad Confused podcast if the role was for that of a young Palpatine. Smith did not comment on the matter. He did say, “But it was a pretty groovy thing, it was a really groovy part and concept. It was a big thing, it was a big story detail, a transformative Star Wars story detail, and it never got quite over the line.”

Smith is known for his role in Doctor Who as the Eleventh Doctor. He also appeared as Prince Philip in The Crown, for which he earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.

At this time, neither Lucasfilm nor Disney has commented on the casting news. What do you think of Matt Smith joining the cast of Star Wars: Starfighter as a villain? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
