Freakier Friday is now in theaters. While it isn’t at the top spot for its opening weekend, it still has a strong start. On its opening Friday, the flick brought in $12.7 million on Friday. This includes $3.1 million in previews on Thursday night. The current projections have the film earning around $30 – $33 million for its opening weekend. This is a very respectable number for a comedy for this day and age. It also has it equal or ahead of other recent similar comedies like Mean Girls with its $28 million, and The Lost City at $31 million domestically.
The reviews for Freakier Friday have been solid but not over the top. However, audiences have more favorable views of the film and gave it a perfect A CinemaScore. It got 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. The film also has some other benefits as well including a female target and a nostalgia factor. In recent weeks, the original film has been among the 10 most-watched films on Disney+ as well.
The film continues the story that was started in 2003’s Freaky Friday. It is directed by Nisha Ganatra and stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie-Lee Curtis.

“Freakier Friday,” a sequel to the beloved 2003 film with a multigenerational twist starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, will be released in theaters nationwide in 2025. In the film, Curtis and Lohan reprise their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman. The story picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice. “Freakier Friday” is directed by Nisha Ganatra. The producers are Kristin Burr, Andrew Gunn, and Jamie Lee Curtis, with Nathan Kelly, Ann Marie Sanderlin, and Lindsay Lohan serving as executive producers. Other returning cast members from the original film include Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao. They are joined by Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.
