Disney’s California Adventure | DISNEY THIS DAY | August 2, 1995

On this day in 1995, the idea for Disney California Adventure was first pitched at a three-day retreat in Aspen, Colorado. Disney’s then-CEO Michael Eisner invited several dozen top executives to present ideas for a new second gate in Anaheim. Disneyland President Paul Pressler and Imagineering VP Barry Braverman presented the idea of a California-centered park. Their proposal won out over themes about sports, Route 66, and the world’s oceans. DCA opened six years later. [30 years ago in 2025]
