On this day in 1955, the Tomorrowland Boats attraction opened between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland at Disneyland. Guests controlled the small motor boats themselves and navigated around a lagoon. Unfortunately, the boats were not a big hit because they often overheated and got stranded. About a month later, the attraction reopened as the Phantom Boats with trademark fins added to the boats.
