On this day in 2012, the Red Car Trolleys debuted on Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure. The streetcars were inspired by the Pacific Electric Railway’s Hollywood-class “Red Cars” that provided transportation in Southern California between 1901 and 1961. The 623 car paid tribute to the year Walt Disney arrived in California. The 717 car was an homage to Disneyland’s opening date, July 17. The trolleys’ last day of operation was Feb. 8, 2025.
