A first look at Pixar’s upcoming animated feature, Hoppers, was shared with attendees of the Annecy Animation Festival in France. This was shared by Pixar Animation Studios’ Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter, who was also honored by being inducted into Annecy’s Walk of Fame.
During a presentation, Docter shared never-before-seen footage of the film, which will be arriving in theaters on March 6, 2026. This was screened exclusively for the Annecy audience. The clip showed about two minutes of the film. This was very well received by those in attendance. The clips shown revealed the world the film takes place, along with multiple characters. The animation was reportedly incredible, the humor hilarious, and also a bit wacky. It looks to be something completely new for Pixar.
In Hoppers, scientists have discovered how to “hop” human consciousness into lifelike robotic animals. This allows people to communicate with animals as animals. The film, which Pete Docter called an “action-packed comedy spy thriller,” introduced Mabel, an animal lover who uses this new technology to uncover mysteries within the animal world. It turns out, these are beyond anything she could have imagined.
Hoppers is directed by Daniel Chong and produced by Nicole Paradis Grindle. It features the voices of Piper Curda (May December), Bobby Moynihan (SNL), and Jon Hamm (Mad Men, Fargo).
Director Daniel Chong is most well-known for creating We Bare Bears for the Cartoon Network. The series ran from 2015 to 2019. This was followed by We Bare Bears: The Movie in 2020. Chong wrote, directed, and executive produced this film. After the film, he returned to Pixar Animation Studios. Previously, he had worked at Pixar as a storyboard artist on multiple projects.
Along with showing the clips of Hoppers, Pixar also shared additional news about Toy Story 5, Elio, and announced the upcoming original feature, Gatto.
