Disney’s Snow White is the most recent live-action retelling of a Walt Disney Animation Studios animated feature. This film, starring Rachel Zegler in the title role with Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, brings a new take on Walt Disney’s first princess movie. The film has some classic elements that fans will immediately recognize. It also has some new approaches to some elements of the story. At its core, it is a story about the young princess on a quest to bring kindness to her kingdom.

Quality
There are ups and downs in Snow White in terms of quality. Some of the scenery and sets are absolutely beautiful. Some of the digital effects, not so much. This means that sometimes the film is very enjoyable to look at, and then other times it is borderline uncomfortable. The accompanying audio is well done. The film is well-mixed and has a quality level one would expect to come from Disney.
Bonus Features
The extras included with Disney’s Snow White are enjoyable enough to watch. They give some looks at different parts of the film. This includes the making-of, music, deleted scenes, costuming, a sing-along, and bloopers. I thought the costuming featurette was one of the better ones. I could have done without the bloopers. All of these are worth watching once as they do add perspective to how the film was made and why.

Final Thoughts
I wanted to like Disney’s Snow White more than I did. It has moments and characters that I really thought were great. It also had other moments that I just didn’t see how they were fitting into the same movie. The word that came to mind as I finished this film was disjointed. It seems like it was two approaches to the same film that never quite found each other. Looking at the film, I see lots of potential that just never was quite realized or dialed in. There are some good songs, beautiful scenes, lovely costumes, and enjoyable acting moments found in this film. It just doesn’t line up with the powerful storytelling that Walt Disney brought to the original. For those who haven’t seen the original, this film will most likely be more enjoyable. Sadly for me, the hat stayed on without even a nod.
