On this day in 2010, a D23 event celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Walt Disney Archives as well as its founder and then-chief archivist, Dave Smith. The gathering also marked Smith’s 40th and final year at the company. The documentary, “Archiving the Archives: Forty Years of Preserving the Magic,” premiered during the event. It explained the archival process in an amusing and sincere way while following a Pinocchio animator’s model through its journey. [15 years ago in 2025]
