There are new things to learn about the new pirate pub coming to Adventureland at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. This includes a backstory about the pub and more details about it!

Called The Beak and Barrel, it was established by Captain Meridian “Merry” Goldwyn and her talkative first mate, Rummy. There will be more about Runny below. Presumably, in the future, there will be more about Captain Merry and her crew. When the pirate pub opens later this year, it will welcome other swashbucklers, scoundrels, bandits, and buccaneers of all ages from all around the globe.

Rummy
Rummy is Captain Merry’s first mate and also her companion. He is also the tavern’s quartermaster and keeps an eye on the place from his roost atop the bar. He is retired from seafaring life, but Rummy continues to be a dutiful crewman to his beloved Merry. He makes sure that everything is ship-shape as he shares tales of piracy and also leads the bar in a rousing toast or two.
Disney fans might notice that Rummy looks quite a bit like the original Barker Bird that previously sat at the entrance to Pirates of the Caribbean. This bird flew off quite some time ago. Only time will tell if this bird is one and the same.

The Mess
“The Mess” is the largest and central space at The Beak and Barrel. It was once the mess hall for Spanish soldiers. It has long tables spanning the room. This allows for pirates to gather ’round and tell a “whale of a tale, and it’s all true.” There is also an imposing anchor that is covered in candles and dripping wax hanging above.
There is also a large bar that anchors one side of the room. It is cobbled together from salvaged portions of a cursed shipwreck. In the center, a skull-shaped stern is the home to an impressive collection of grogs and brew. Those who look closely might spot the Enchanted Rum Bottle. This was gifted to Merry by the enchantress Tia Dalma. It appears to be the source of the tavern’s specialty brews. Rummy will also be seen hobbling along the bar’s ledge as he greets patrons and keeps an eye on the crew while Merry is away.

Captain’s Quarters
Another room in The Beak and Barrel is the Captain’s Quarters. This is where visiting pirates can enjoy a taste of the finer life. This room was once the living quarters of the Spanish Comandante. Through the years, the final artwork and drapery have suffered from rambunctious pirates slashing away at things and burning things. Really, it’s amazing that the whole place is still standing! In some places, faded spots on the wall are all that is still there from portraits that have been plundered by pocket-picking pirates.
Over the fireplace, there are five miniature ships in glass bottles on display. They are rumored to represent pirates from every corner of the world banding together to defeat tyranny. Guests should keep an eagle eye on these bottles as they’ve been known to come to life and engage in a fearsome battle.
