A new Star Wars movie is set to go into production this fall. Called Star Wars: Starfighter, the film is being directed by Shawn Levy and stars Ryan Gosling.
Levy recently directed and produced Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine. He made a surprise appearance during The Mandalorian and Grogu panel. He joined Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni on stage. It was there that this project was confirmed at Star Wars Celebration Japan.
The film is one of several theatrical projects that are in development from Lucasfilm. This includes films by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, Taika Waititi. There is also a new trilogy in the works by Simon Kinberg. Levy’s film, called Star Wars: Starfighter, will go into production this fall.
The film’s story is set about five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Gosling will play a brand-new character that was teased by the actor’s appearance on stage.
Star Wars: Starfighter will be arriving in theaters on May 28, 2027.
