Ernie Hudson has joined the cast of Toy Story 5. He will be lending his voice to Combat Carl, which was previously voiced by Carl Weathers. Weathers passed away at the age of 76 in 2024. Weathers voiced Combat Carl previously in Toy Story of Terror! and Toy Story 4.
Toy Story 5 is set to arrive in theaters on June 19, 2026. At this point, official details about the film aren’t known. Tim Allen, the voice of Buzz Lightyear, has shared that this film has “a lot about Jessie.” Jessie, who is voiced by Joan Cusack. Tom [Hanks] and I do — Woody and I — do realign,” he also shared. “And there’s an unbelievable opening scene with Buzz Lightyear. I can give you that, but I can’t give you much more.”
Allen stated in another interview after doing a voiceover session that the film has “a very, very clever story” with “a brilliant script,” adding, “It’s a really good story, guys. It’s really good.”
The newest film in the Toy Story franchise is being directed by Andrew Stanton, who directed Finding Nemo and WALL-E. Jessica Choi is producing, and Pete Docter is executive producing. Anna Farris also has an undisclosed role in the film.
