On this day in 1990, Touchstone Pictures released the modern classic ‘Pretty Woman.’ The romantic comedy was Julia Roberts’ breakout role, earning her a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination. ‘Pretty Woman’ sold the highest number of tickets ever in the U.S. for a romantic comedy and was Disney’s most successful live action film to date. At its release, it was the fifth-highest-grossing film of all time, behind ‘E.T.,’ ‘Star Wars,’ ‘Indiana Jones,’ and ‘Jaws.’ [35 years ago in 2025]
