During The Walt Disney Company 2025 Annual Shareholder Meeting, Disney CEO Bob Iger made multiple announcements. One of which is that Pixar Animation Studios is working on a sequel to 2017’s Academy Award-winning film Coco. There weren’t any story details released about the film. During the annual meeting, Iger said, “While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart and adventure.” He wrapped up the announcement saying “And we can’t wait to share more soon.”
There are a couple more details that are known about Coco 2, however. The original team from the first film is reuniting to make this film. This includes Lee Unkrich (Coco, Toy Story 3) and co-director Adrian Molina (Coco). Oscar-winning producer Mark Nielsen (Toy Story 4, Inside Out 2) will produce.

Coco told the story of Miguel, a 12-year old who dreamed of becoming a musician. This was despite a generations-old ban on music in his family. He ends up going on adventure to the vibrant Land of the Dead to find out the real story behind his family history. Coco would win two Academy Awards. One was for best animated feature and the other for best original song for Remember Me. The movie also won a Golden Globe for best motion picture-animated, a BAFTA for best animated film, and critics’ choice awards for best animated feature and best song for Remember Me.
