On this day in 1954, ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’ was released. Adventurers Kirk Douglas, Paul Lukas, and Peter Lorre aim to solve the mystery of the sea monster that is sinking ships. The arrival of James Mason’s Captain Nemo and his ‘Nautilus’ submarine add complexity. ‘20,000 Leagues’ was Disney’s first full-length film to be distributed by Buena Vista Distribution. The film would win two Oscars and inspire several attractions at Disney Parks. [70 years ago in 2024]
